My species are very diplomatic and pretty much see other organic species as cousins since they see every star as aspects of the sun and the stars gave rise to life seemingly universally.  Which means the aliens encountered by the Zevedic are actually lost cousins who once were together when they lived as part of the stars.

So they tend to treat contact with other species as somewhat of a family reunion.  Needless to say, some of their cousins have changed a lot.
