Being an underwater nation I think the relation between you and other races were cold until the last few centuries. When did you take interest in surface lands, anyway? Especially the one found on the main continent. That'd be the real turning point in terms of politics.
Good question, I am mostly trying to figure out the worlds history so I can figure out when my empire started expanding onto the surface. Without any input from others though, I'd guess around 100 years ago at least (So probably between 100-400 years ago)
Also while humans are the most numerous one of the major colonial powers are elfish (my Heavenly Empire of Yllendthyr). Speaking of which since my worship treats the sky and the stars as sacred symbols while your nation seems to consider the opposite I wonder if it has any impact on our relations?
Probably. My nation is deeply religious (And state and religion is essentially 100% fused together), though its current government is more pragmatic than usual due to its need to industrialize using foreign help. In summary: My governments current leadership is willing to pretend to tolerate the other faith but my common people and overall ruling caste (particularly the religious sects) would see your religion as a particularly deviant faith.
Hopefully not because I technically have 3-4 tiny islands in the center of your territory (almost invisibly small dots on the map thousand or so kilometers from Avalia, my previous claim).
Yeah, this is an obvious problem xD. One idea I have for why my nation hasn't done anything about it is some kind of ancient historical treaty or agreement (A land lease or concessions to some old war maybe).
Also how do you manage to build cities thousands of meters underwater? Or perhaps your cities which allow human and other surface dweller visitors are closer to the shores? Could kinda make sense since otherwise building something which can withstand the water pressure would be pain. But if your people can breathe in water they don't need to seal off their buildings at all.
The human-habitable underwater cities are indeed closer to the shore. Basically think Bioshock.
