Yes, you can have more than one character.  Ideally, you would only have 1 combatant of some sort, and then other non-combat characters, but go ahead and do anything.  If you want multiple combatants, depending on how they turn out [@Stern Algorithm] will have final judgement on if he is ok with it or not.
