[@Leslie Hall] In my state you have to get the bachelors in an approved college, pass another course in a set of approved courses, pass an assessment, and (obviously) apply to be a teacher. If a teacher hasn't fulfilled all of the requirements, and the reasons for this are, well, reasonable, they can get a 3-year teaching license in which they have to fill the rest of the requirements. If they do, they can finally get their 5-year teaching license. And most counties don't allow the hiring of teachers in teacher's unions, that way they can fire teachers that aren't working out.
