I hope that effectively teleporting my horse to the stables is acceptable - it seemed to me less like godmoding, more like just waving away a headache.

Also, if King Hagard is as bad as he sounds, then I vote we assemble in the town and overthrow his ass as a giant herd of mythical creatures (and Wally).
