On the issue of the map: This is a map of Dunbar, a county of Scotland http://dunbarcommunityenergy.org.uk/files/2012/12/Ward-7-map-2.jpg This is our map http://i.imgur.com/ZQkf5X8.png The two look incredibly similar. Only having a few Major Cities is expected, of course, but the scale and positioning of this map makes it appear more like a county than a kingdom. The cities are giant dots, the forests are huge (Shadowsong's Rest is two hundred miles wide) and there isn't any evidence of minor towns or cities. A particularly fast person walks at about 5mph. Therefore, it could take a day of nonstop walking just to get down from the mountain, and two days of nonstop walking (i.e. without sleeping, eating, going the wrong way, etc.) to get from one end of Shadowsong's Rest to the other. That's a big forest. Perhaps the map should be a little more broken up - a few more minor forests and a few less major forest.
