Terrorist attack. Wow. That's really not cool.
Specifically? We killed more civilians in our response than were killed in the attack, we tanked our economy further to the point we were forced to get to where we are now, we created at least two new terror groups in the process of trying to destroy one, we got involved in literally the worst possible place to get involved, we wasted soldiers on battles we didn't even really win, and we force our people to give up tons of freedom just to travel. Our only "success" was killing someone who we now know might not have actually been the main person behind the attacks, who was pretty much not dangerous because he was pretty much retired by the time we killed him. Congrats, they won. A few thousand people isn't good, but it's not that bad. More people die daily of hunger than that. Genocides are bad. The being able to kill christians, jews, and/or atheists in some countries legally is bad. One attack that could have been prevented with the intelligence we had isn't that bad.
