[/quote]Jets are availible but at early stages. My heavy fighters are technically "discount Me 262" with poorer power, speed, fuel economy and such and it's only really feasible because mithril is so light.
Well, jet engines could have flown from 1940 but then politics and other BS happened.
Generally this game allows mid-ww2 tech along with mechs and other dieselpunk inventions for the sake of having diversity.

That being said no problem with jets. 
Actually with ww2 tech propeller driven fighters often better.
USA kept props in their military until the late 50s.
