Basic Information
Name:
Benjamin Voss, The Behemoth
Age:
42
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
For a man, Ben is big. Standing at an enormous 6’10 and weighing in at well over 400lbs, most people never meet a man his size in their lives. He has an incredibly powerfully build frame, not unlike a viking's. This means than he has broad shoulders, a solid build and overall large bones with a thick gut. His body is extremely muscular and riddled with various small scars, ranging in size and shape from many hours spent on various kinds of manual labor. His hair is mid length and curly and is slicked back to be kept out of his eyes. Similarly to in this image. Ben has a square face with a relatively small forehead, and a very strong chin. He has almond shaped, green eyes separated by an average sized noes that stare straight ahead in neutral position that can almost be defined as glaring. Ben's face is often framed with a tidy beard that runs across his jawline and over his lips, and up the center of his chin. His face has several tiny scars, a prominent one cuts through his right eyebrow. None of these are fight related, just due to a fairly labor intensive life. Subtle worry and laugh lines are also permanently etched into his face, as facial expressions are one of his main ways of communicating.
Skills/Talents:
Ben is very, very good at manual labor. His size and stature grant him strength that some, even with strength enhancements arent capable of. Due to his strenuous and generally active lifestyle on the farm back home Ben is also very good at repairing, building, and demolishing things in a safe manner. He's surprisingly adept with his hands in ways that require finesse as well. Years of communication has driven him to be capable and easily legible handwriting and has granted him quite a skillset when it comes to sketching things out. He's no artist, but it's much better that one might expect from a man who is always at risk of breaking the pencil from gripping it too hard.
Brief Backstory:
Ben was born on March twentieth, in 1973, on the day of the Spring Equinox. And right from the start, Ben was different. Maybe it was the fact that he was a fourteen pound baby, maybe it was the fact that he didn't reach the common first word checkpoint that most children reach, maybe it was the fact that the sheer temperature in the room raised just by him being present. Maybe it was due to a lot of things. Ben was born with his power, it manifesting itself on the fifth day he was alive in the form of a flower growing out of the palm of his hand. He always had an affinity with the land that most would never dream to see or have, and he considers himself lucky to have the background that he had. Ben was born in Texas, in a hospital, but was raised on the family farm with his mother, father, and immediate or close family such as his father's grandparents, one of which was a doctor who had proclaimed the boy as mute after about a year and a half of his existence, and recommended a few things to help with his aliment. He never lived an especially wealthy life, and so his parents couldn't afford to get lessons in sign language, and so compensated with a dry erase board, a marker, and a handkerchief. Ben attended a public school a little ways away from where he lived up until he graduated high school. He got a mid level education, nothing super special, but kept good grades with A's, B's, and the occasional C in a math class here and there. Not through especially high intelligence, but through good work ethic. Ben was... a very hard worker. His first day of high school was everything his family dreaded. He laid eyes on a single girl in his class, and decided then and there that he loved her. Despite his reputation of being a teddy bear, the young woman told him to bug off. He looked out the window in the middle of a class, and saw the Principle rolling in on a 1966 Cobra, a sports car that cost more than his father would ever make in five years. He asked if he could drive it. The Principle laughed him off. He saw the 1st place trophy for the football team, demanded that the coach give it to him. "Win us our first tournament in fifteen years," the old fart had told him, "and then we'll see." A normal boy would have been discouraged, heartbroken with so much disappointment. Ben was not. Ever the long-term planner, he set to work. The very next day, after school, he had his father drive him across town to the local autoshop, and ran back out with a huge list of parts in hand, leaving a bemused mechanic chuckling alongside his co workers. Within the week, he'd turned the backyard into his own personal workshop, complete with roof, work space, and supplemented with his father's tools (whenever he nabbed them when his dad wasn't looking). The junkyard became one of his favorite locales, the boy hurrying in and coming back out with arms full of car parts. On top of all of that, he'd started to train. He ran up and down the street, racing for miles at a time through sleet or snow or what-have-you, and even started to lift, going so far as to use his own piles of junk as weights. The sight of him lugging an old, busted car door over his head back and forth across the yard will remain with his mom until her dying day. Under such intense training, it was no surprise at all when his parents got the call from the coach, saying that he made the cut for the football team, and demanded, no less, that he become the first-string quarterback. Fast-forward to his senior year. That ramshackle workshop is now home to an actual, home-grown vehicle, a Cobra 1966 made with entirely scavenged parts and paint, complete with a fully-functional combustion engine. The first time he turned it over, his parent were ready to call the fire brigade. And his time spent with the football team was well spent, if the number of girls swooning after him were any indication, his 'sweetheart' conspicuously absent, yet always watching from afar. He'd keep telling me how every time he'd drive the Cobra into the lot, she'd always be there, staring out of the corner of her eye. The last game of the season, the tournament, was on the same night as the High School dance, both held at the center downtown. Ben scored the tie-breaking touchdown, returning the ball a full 97 yards, barreling through defenses and quite literally carrying another player like some kind of unstoppable juggernaut. That girl Ben had set his eyes on all those years ago? Well, he asked her to the dance. She said yes and the two of them just... exploded into something much greater. She learned he was a meta human, and about his counterpart, and was shown all of the amazing things he could do. He made a habit of giving her a flower every time they met. Due to the black fall effect, Ben had turned most of his family into meta humans. His grandmother healed a little faster, and his grandfather learned to understand many different languages. His dad became stronger, and his mother could kiss any boo-boo away. Most of these powers were level two or below. She stuck with him when his grandparents passed away of old age. His grandfather then his grandmother a few months after. They had lived a full life, and were in their mid eighties. Their funerals, which were a few months apart, weren't filled with tears as if they had died young. In fact, it was melancholy. Sad that they were gone, but joyous at their lives well lived. It was then that Ben learned that death was a part of life. Due to his heavy interaction with Claire, he changed her into a meta human as well. A telepath, to be exact. He had been planning on proposing to her soon when he heard her in his own mind, and she said 'I can hear you.' His forms were discovered in some fairly unorthodox ways. He was helping his father push a tractor that had run out of gas when his golem form manifested itself. It was random, and it began in 1988. He woke up feeling strangely, and tried to work through it. It got more and more powerful over the next hour, and Ben was basically being driven back him for the day to rest sitting on the tractor thinking he had caught something especially resilient, as he was not a sickly boy. Then he promptly passed out. When he awoke, the tractor was out of gas, and he was a twenty foot tall, five ton creature. Unfortunately, he was stuck in that form for a while, and he just about carried the tractor back him. He and his father had to repair the damage done. His forms became useful after that, Ben taking many years to learn to use them when he wants to over random times. His Golem form for doing things no human ever could alone, and for performing raw physical feats that would require thousands of dollars and a lot of man power to do. In the summer of 1999, Ben was an adult, and had ascended to the most able bodied man there not even due to his power, although that helped a lot. One night he heard the chickens being loud and screaming. Thinking it was a Coyote, or a bobcat or wolf, he grabbed his father's shotgun and his coat and set off into the night to check up on the creatures. When he arrived he found himself pointing his Remington at a shark like girl who had a chicken in her hands that she was about to eat. He motioned for her to put it down, and she did, but she was screaming threats at him by then. He could tell that she was a meta human, like him. His family knew a pretty good amount on them. It was probably one of the only things they researched with their limited internet connection. After his family stepped in, verbal communication becoming more relevant to the situation as the seconds passed, they brought the girl in, and let her eat her fill. They talked a little while, and eventually learned that the girl's power was very similar to his own. Ben had traits very similar to that of the Behemoth's, and with his family being Catholic, linked the two together as the incarnations as the holy beasts of the land and sea- Counterparts. The girl, Pink as he learned her name was, eventually left, Ben having driven her home in his truck, thinking that was the end of it. Quite the opposite actually. He learned that after their encounter Pink had began to attend school again, from none other than Pink herself. After their encounter it because semi common for her to visit, maybe once a week. Twice if they were lucky. Ben greatly appreciated Pink's presence as she was one of his best friends. They even trained together from time to time. Although those occasions were rare. When Ben turned twenty seven he married that girl he fell in love with in Freshman year. He proposed to her by grabbing an old and unused "Learn ASL!" VHS tape that they had been planning to watch together. They never did, but it was unorthodox, and different, and so him. They, with the guidance of his parents, became the heads of the household. However, tragedy struck. Ben met Pink again, late at night, for the second time. She had explained that her family had been criminals without her knowledge, and that her whole family had been arrested, and she had no where to go. Ben immediately stuck up for her, Claire (who was willing to follow him to hell and back, and he for her) trusted his judgement and translated his thoughts to his parents, who required more convincing. After an hour long debate, his parents caved, and Pink lived with them for a long while, until the whole incident blew over. Not too long ago, in 2005, Claire and Ben became 'mom and dad' to a bouncing baby girl who was very much different than both of them. Sure, she had Claire's eyes and Ben's hair color but she was so... light. And much like her father, and her godmother Pink, this little girl, Ziz, had powers not unlike their own. The rest of the story... well, that is yet to be written.

Power Information

Super System (Biological), Elemental.
Power:
Overview: Ben is the Behemoth, the deity of the land. He has had his power all his life, and for most of it he has put it to good use. He retains control of the world around him. This power is versatile and comes in many, many forms. Agrokinesis and Xylokinesis or better known as Plant and wood manipulation are the most common. His ability can range from the control and generation of wood and fauna to the weaponization of it. He has had a lot of time to learn how to control this gift of power he has been given, and he tries never use it offensively. Because of this, his power is used mainly for defensive or recreational purposes, creating a protective barrier of wooden skin, or shooting the a vine beneath his opponent and wrapping it around his opponents feet to trip them up, making and repairing new structures and generally making bank in farming. He tries to attain a hands off fighting style and will try not to lay a hand on his offender. Because he dislikes fighting so much, he has created a unique style of maneuvers he has dubbed Bu-Da after using Google translate to name his art of not fighting. He is capable of many feats, from turning portions of his body into wood, to spawning singular plants (like flowers or a vine) and sticks and shit by simply pulling them out of his sleeves in a magic hat trick fashion (In reality, they grow right off of his body). When in the right environment he is capable of using his full power, which can be a maelstrom of wood and plants that looks very much like that of tentacle porn. Except instead of tentacles it's spiky and thorned wooden and plant death vines of sex-death. Unless you're into that kind of thing. He is also fully capable of making thick wooded shields and barriers around himself and others. Think of him like Groot, except he cant say anything at all. Ben's abilities also step into other branches of the world around him. Terrakinesis is also within Ben's rather large arsenal. Much like his other abilities these are rarely used for offensive purposes and are most often used for repairing or building various objects. Terrakinesis especially has been used to move large quantities of land, soil, and what it contains from place to place or uproot trees. All of his abilities, thusfar, have no real range requirement. He can use Frenzy Plant with the same effectiveness ten feet away as well as he can a thousand feet away. The only issue is that, of course, he can miss. Demon Form: In this state, Ben covers himself in his hard wooden. stone, and plant exterior, and becomes a twelve foot tall tree golem. This golem has the ability to warp it's limbs into weapons or shields, and has incredible regeneration when in a healthy environment in the sun. While it cannot manipulate plant life or wood like his normal form can, it is extremely defensive and incredibly strong. A juggernaut of sorts. This forest golem is capable of generating various defense mechanisms plants are capable of creating. Whether it be coating his body in Poison Ivy Vines if he doesn't want to be touched, or emitting various wafting odors to attract insects and other bugs such as spiders, bees, and wasps to defend him in nonlethal ways. If he is forced to be physical, he has various ways of fighting, using whip like vines to either tie up or trip his opponents up, wooden constructed weapons, or simply punching them out, which is usually pretty easy in this form. It looks similarly to this.
Limits:
Ben's abilities are incredibly versatile and powerful, but he is the being of the land and, in the water or air, loses just about all of his superhuman abilities. His abilities are also mainly Xylo and Agrokinesis and, as you can imagine, they are relatively weak to fire. Yes, terrakinesis might be more resistant, but he has yet to master that ability on a scale that can be used to defend against such a drawback very effectively. I mean honeslty he can lob a few hundred pounds of soil and maybe at most a few pounds of it will impact hard enough to hurt. But he's not doing anything that noteworthy.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
As I have stated, air, water, and fire are all things that can be used against him in these respects. I would like to say throwing a bucket of water on him may weaken him, or the rain may dampen his abilities, but they wont take them away fully. That only happens when he is fully submerged. The same concept applies with air. I would also like to mention that Ben as a whole is just not a fighter and he has very little experience when it comes to straight up fisticuffs. 90% of his style is either 'dont get hit' or 'get hit and be able to take the hit'. Ben also has one major character flaw- he is mute. If he loses his whiteboard he's pretty lost, and he cant really make any callouts to allies, or communicate in a meaningful and easy to access way. It's hard and dangerous to text on the battlefield or read the text he sent you. He also has a hard time conveying emotion because urgency is lost outside of capital letters. And once again, it's hard to read capital letters and still have time to dodge that incoming fireball that you havent seen yet. Makes shit hard, yo.

Relationships
Family:
Jedediah Voss - Father Madison Voss - Mother Claire Voss - Wife Ziz Voss - Daughter Pink - Counterpart/younger sister
Dynamics:
{Character Name} | {Impression (Good/Bad/Neutral} | {Relationship (Friend, Rival, Crush, etc)} | {Character Thoughts via in-character quote} |

Other

Click me!
Ben is also a counselor at Camp Thinkrock.
