You'll be most likely a former colony who declared independence so check the major colony holders and pick whoever is the most "sympathetic" to you.
Then contact the nation's player about your idea.
You can be easily Mexico or America here so yeah, nothing is lost.
Also the southermost part of the main continent is still free because one of the players regretfully quit.
Now that I think about it you can also use that.
Also check the nations here and try to figure out a fun backstory for your nation.
