February 8th Heavy sandstorms in the Kamenese Peninsula begin to dissipate, and the Kalpian 3rd Army prepares to move out again. February 9th-15th The Battle of Kima begins. Battle of Kima Prelude: The Kalpian 3rd Army, unprepared for fighting in the heavy desert of the Kamenese Peninsula, sat for nearly a month and a half while heavy winds from the Serranthian Sea battered the peninsula. General Von Barlath ordered a general advance on the capital as soon as possible. The beleaguered Kalpian Army, some three thousand men without guns, advanced on the capital on the 9th of February. They met the Kamenese Home Army, who had heavily entrenched themselves outside the city, and possessed 50 Ozo-Pattern Howitzers and a 1,000 Ishui 11 Model Automatic Rifles to help in the defense. Battle: The battle seemed poised on the hinge of either side on the 9th of February. With less than 75,000 men against almost 300,000, the Kalpians seemed to be fighting a much larger force, this time equipped with heavy artillery and machine guns. The Kamenese Home Army seemed at a loss however, for less than half of their force had rifles and among them were old men and teenagers, men barely not worth fighting. On the 9th, the Kalpians under Von Barlath launched a preliminary probing attack, which cost 315 men, but discovered that the Kamenese were well entrenched.
Battle of Kima, February 1907
On the morning of the tenth, Von Barlath, under orders of the immediate capitulation of Kamen due to heavy external influence sent forth the XI Corps (50,000 men) up into a smashing spearhead. The Attack along the Ridge became a sudden thing of legend. Initially bogged down by heavy machine gun fire, the Gubeat 12.5cm guns finally dialed in on the trench and after a four hour long barrage vaporized it under a slog of heavy, indirect fire. The XI Corps advanced, taking heavy casualties and coming with three miles of the city of Kima. On the 12th however, the Kamenese reoriented themselves and the XI Corps was beaten in it's second forward assault, incurring 4,542 casualties in a full eight hours of firing. Long sloping dunes, without much room to maneuver gave rise to the heightened casualties. On the 13th through the 15th, the Kalpians again tried to assault, replicating the success of the Attack along the Ridge, but failing over and over. The campaign ended on the 15th, as Kalpian's casualties had simply mounted too high, without adequate external support. Aftermath: The battle was a tactical Kalpian defeat but a strategic victory. Surrounded, with their army dwindling and their people starving, the Kamenese were hanging by a thread. The Kalpians however had been bled dry, and had little offensive fighting remaining.
