Name: Khaius Diene (Ka-HI-us Dain) Species: Human Age: 23 Gender: Male Faction: Jedi Order Rank: Jedi Scholar Captive? Rescuer. Khaius is not usually a "combat oriented" Jedi. The young man is more of a scholar, preferring to squirrel himself away in philosophies and playing with the "true nature" of the Force. The capture of his brethren drew his attention, and this he pressed to be a part of a mission. Jedi live a life of peril, true, and in his solitude in the Temple he had been sheltered from that life. When Lyric was taken however, a pillar of his life threatened to collapse. In the moment of revelation that the most exaulted of his Jedi brethren could be in danger, it occurred to him that it was against his Order to seclude himself at the peril of others. To be Jedi was to serve, to isolate, could lead to fear of inclusion or fear of a world that one does not understand... to that end he was able to be placed on a team sent to investigate.
Appearance:
A tall, (roughly 6'2) slender(175lbs) fellow bordering on underfed, Khaius is elfen of feature with modestly cut, long hair. Traditionally dressed, the only rugged feature about the man is the incessant beard he insists on, perhaps for the effect of age, perhaps because it warms his chin. Nonetheless, it is here to stay. Antisocial: Tends to see people second- this is not an active trait, by that he does not dislike or shun people, he tends to see information first is all. Seemingly intrinsic points of view concerning people and the way they work are often lost on him- he does not read emotion well, and does not respond to them well either. Self-depreciating: If he is not doing well, he's not doing well. Inexperience: Dark Side- Possessing a clear understanding of the histories between Jedi and Sith, and even assuming a light understanding between the different creeds, Khaius has not faced the dark side of the force- either in combat or otherwise(temptation).
Skills:
Lightsaber use: Intermediately trained in Soresu: Khaius is a student of theory and practice. He can walk through forms blindfolded forward and backward- the issue is not in his technique but his combat experience, and thus his confidence in combat. In practice duels, he struggles with fluidity, it is difficult for him to break form and flow between offense and defense. This is what labels him intermediate. With practice, it is assumed that he could master the saber and this particular form. Blaster use: Novice. Having never really dedicated time to this, Khaius is a decent shot, though again concentrating in the midst of battle is more of the problem than his actual technique. Ship piloting: Intermediate Because this is technology based, Khaius is much more confident here. His ability to manipulate technology was perhaps the most prized of things taught to him- so manning a ship isn't much a problem. His piloting is flawless in a simulator.. Robotics and Technology interfacing: High Being trained by an archivist has it's merits. The young man is a whiz at interface- anything with a screen and an interactive element he can pretty much operate, get into, decipher, etc. Ancient machines, alien tech, it's all be studied, and practiced.
Force capabilities:
Force healing: Intermediate Picking this skill up made logical sense to Khaius, it was a means to serve anyone he was with alongside maintaining himself as well. Force deflection This also was another logical choice for someone not exactly on the front lines. Deflection and healing seemed a great way to keep oneself and others alive in times of peril. In the event he was in the field for the first time, these two abilities could buy him the time he needed to grow a little confidence, and perhaps even learn while he was trying to survive. Revitalize This was taught to him directly by his Master to increase his efficiency as an archivist. Alter Damage. This aims at survival, yet another means for Khaius to persevere in unfortunate circumstances.
Biography:
Born on Coruscant, Khaius's father was a pilot and his mother worked in a small cantina. Committed to the Order at a very young age, the boy had small dealings with his parents, and truly adopted the Temple Jedi as his family. As a young boy, his father's piloting kept him away from home, and his mother's association with the dregs of the city kept her away from sobriety. Though he has never spoken openly about his time before entering into the temple, the hard fact is present: Khaius was not exactly sought out by the Order. He was abandoned there. His younger years were full of silence- he was a pair of watching eyes, without judgement, without emotion, his flat affect and large round eyes were disconcerting. At least in action the boy seemed to mean well. He did not speak a full sentence until he was 5, when he thanked a Jedi Master, Lyric, and called him "Father". After his initial communication though, his development increased within the markers of "normalcy" and he was able to pass the Trials at 10. As a teenager, Khaius was very reclusive. Though his force capabilities were adequate, it was widely thought he would never truly make his mark in the field, so he was given to Te'Naor Fordan, historian, as an Padiwan. Te'Naor was a Scholar of the highest order- it was believed Khaius would follow the man's footsteps well- and keep his knowledge driven mind occupied. Te'Naor's true weakness lie in his affection for books- he studied histories and anthropology so intensely, the young Padiwan rarely got time to interact with others of his age. This granted him a vast knowledge of theory, but lacking in the social skill department. Social cues and norms often confound him if they don't follow what he considers to be logical. Having a large percentage of his people watching in novels, he speaks the way authors write, he expects people to fall into archetypes, and thus he is often very far away from a true understanding of others. This also gave way to a lack of combat experience- and, much like his understanding of people, he grasps lightsaber combat in theory and each strike, pose, and parry falls into a category. He does not have an understanding of combat and it's unpredictable shifts between offense and defense, thus his lack of true mastery. His forms are impeccable: it is his lack of experience that denies him access to the comfort of Mastery. From a very young age, Lyric astounded him with his prowess: socially he was accepted and praised. The man was strong, a swordsman, and clearly not afraid to go into the field and make a difference in the worlds he frequented. Instead of contempt or jealousy, Khaius categorized the man as a hero: fighting for justice, eager to serve and brash in the right ways. In his concrete thinking Lyric embodied a man out of the stories: untouchable- unflappable the way a hero is supposed to be. As a scholar, Khaius understands the dark side of the force exists, but does not see how it can apply to human beings. Because he struggles to see people as three dimensional (capable of making decisions that mold/change who they are) the allure of the darkside is lost on him. To him, Sith are villainous- they have no true motivation or intention other than to be "bad for the sake of power". This wraps them up nicely in a box where he can easily identify them as "bad" and Jedi as "good". Again his lack of experience paints a terrible picture for him. History does not often carry the nuance of personality: he knows events, times, places.. but not people and what motivates them.
Personality and/or Motivation:
Khaius is a quiet and brooding fellow. He is positively the worst person to have in a social situation, though he doesn't quite know that. The majority of his time has been spent in the temple, so he is surprisingly unaware of social norms(not all, but some). He is also a very concrete thinker- the dark side does not make sense to him: it has no real application in the world. The Force in itself has a path, and that path is undeniable. Forcing it out of that path is blasphemous and stupid. He is unable to see further than that most times. Motivation wise, Khaius has opted to be a part of this mission for two reasons: one because he is desperate to ensure Lyric is returned to the temple, alongside another Jedi, Talija. Their capture forced him to begin thinking of his adherence to study and neglect of the field as cowardice. The second is to offer knowledge and council to any who require it, and to gain some valuable experience in the field- facing what he's been studying for so long. A natural curiosity wells up within him when he reads, experience in the field will marry his view of the world with how the world actually is.
Player’s long term goals:
Long term, Khaius wants to prove himself to the Order and to himself, gain acceptance from Lyric and the other masters, and perhaps one day join the ranks of the socially adept.
Relations:
Lyric: Father figure- wants to look good around him. Padawans: Needs to prove that he isn't a padiwan, though some on this very mission have more field experience than he does. Anxiety around female padiwan is too damn high. Tolun Fi. A counsular is more than likely what Khaius would be when his spine grows in, so he's probably been watching Tolun more than any other Jedi save Lyric himself. This provides an interesting split: the ruthless, calculated counsular, the brash, arrogant knight, it meshes rather.. yes you guessed it.. awkwardly.
Final Point - Secrets:
None ---------------------------------------- SECRET: One true motivation for coming and pushing to come was to prove his bravery to Talija, for whom he's developed TABD (Teenage Awkward Blushing Disorder). In his heart of hearts, he knows these feelings are dangerous, and that is directly at odds with the tenant: "There is no Emotion, Only Peace" he is currently trying to rationalize it coldly, which of course doesn't work. Just as Lyric is the Hero, Talija has become the female lead- beautiful and strong, someone he can love from afar. He needs to be a hero to be worthy of courting her. Of course the Jedi do not approve of relationships between Jedi- yet his feelings remain. He does not "want" them, but just like any good story, he does not want to stop feeling them either. He has not sought counsel over this matter just yet.. though he knows he should- talking about it takes the romance away. In essence, he'll "lose the story" he gets to tell himself when he admits his feelings aloud. ----------------------------------------
