The leader's blade caught Sabine's eye while she was transforming, but she could do nothing to avoid it except list over to one side. She didn't have great motor control during her transformations; she had never practised it. At once, Peiter saved Sabine's life and sustained a nasty wound. The seconds he bought her allowed her to reach her full size and fury. Sabine's beast form had grown as she reached maturity and confidence in her adulthood, and she was not so weak anymore. Seeing Peiter hurt was bad enough, but Sabine's beast spirit converted all her fear into additional anger. All she could do to hold herself with lucidity enough to retreat was to lash out and take the leader by surprise. She leapt forth low at the Cathay-raht's legs and push them forward and upwards, upending the leader and letting him fall shoulders or head first behind her. It was only then that she was able to keep running away, nudging Peiter while moving to get him to follow. She resumed running south for a while, trying not to keep too straight due to the arrows - not that the jungle gave her the luxury of a straight path often. Once she had cleared enough distance, however, she veered right to the west, then back up north. She wasn't going to leave her pack behind.
