She began martial arts training at age four and had obtained her black belt at seventeen, uncontested in the outlying suburbs of California. She did fairly good in school, averaging in the high seventies to low eighties, excelling in languages (Both english and spanish) and graduated with honors. After taking a few experimental college courses Dominique still couldn’t decide what she wanted to accomplish in life, and so following a suggestion from a half drunk friend, she walked to the enlistment office after receiving her diploma in applied sciences. Twelve years later she was the first female member in the United States Air Force Pararescue (PJ) unit at the rank of Specialist, having served tours in Afghanistan and the Syrian conflict on multiple occasions, as well as being deployed to assist with evacuations during the 2015 Nuke Detonation in Europe. The true twist in her story however, was on a rescue mission that took place in early 2017… The engines of the C-130 Transport hummed as they soared through the air. Dominique sat nervously in the chair, her hands drumming on her thighs as they approached the drop site. Their mission was to extract a AH-64 Apache pilot from his downed aircraft 30 miles inside the northern Afghanistan border, where a new conflict had arisen in the hills. The red light lit up and the PJ squad moved to the massive cargo door as it began to open. They checked each other’s jump gear and altimeters before doing up their breathers and lining up in formation. Her fourth HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) jump and counting. The green light flicked on and a proud “Ooorah!” came from the squad as they soared out rear door of the C-130, plummeting towards the rocky terrain at terminal velocity. At around 5000 feet a small beep resounded in her ear notifying her that she had reached deployment altitude, but as she pulled the ripcord, a snap was heard as one of the four lines attaching her to the chute snapped, sending her rapidly off course, towards the mountains and away from both the landing zone and the objective. She hit the ground hard and blacked out, tangled in her chute. Dominique awoke to the sound of yelling and dogs barking. She blinked a few times, the blinding light of the sun causing her to have to squint to see, to which she was met with the white canvas of her chute. After several minutes of panicked cutting and hacking at the canvas with her knife, she was free. For all of three minutes. Several armed men were upon her in seconds, waving both foreign and military grade weapons at her, yelling in what she only assumed to be arabic. With a crack, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her head, then nothing as she collapsed onto the ground. [All information regarding the hostage situation has been blacked out] Dominique was held for ransom and was rescued by a squad three months after her capture, having gone through many weeks of torture and lack of both food and water. She was essentially grounded for the next year as she recovered from her injuries and was nursed back to health before re-joining full time operations as if nothing had ever happened. Her squad did notice that she was unusually quiet after the events of 2017. Transferred to Task Force Echo in 2020 shortly after it’s creation after several recommendations from her commanding officers.
