Everyone collectively lost their heads and they couldn't really be blamed, and, unfortunately for Emma she found herself face to face with the head of a giant hydra snapping it's jaws at her. '...' Emma's head was empty, unfortunately. She was a botanist, not a monster slayer. The scariest creature she had ever seen was an angry alley cat, and the ferocious hydra was certainly a step up. Emma had liked to believe she would be brave in the face of danger. It might have even been true if the first danger she saw wasn't a gigantic snake monster. But for the moment she stood unmoving. One should not mistake her lack of motion for compliance with the masked madman who had bought this terrible creature into the previously peaceful forest. No, she was frozen with terror, muscles unwilling to move despite every panicked impulse that screamed 'run'. And then everyone was in motion. Meryn's bandage sailed past Emma's head, landing on the nose of the hydra with a distinct splat, receiving the monsters attention. Someone ran, and they certainly could not be blamed for that. Yet another stepped forward to join in whatever form of demonic magic this was. Yet another still was facing the monster down with a sword. Luckily Emma finally found her head. I thought magic would be fun. That was a mistake, it seemed. Spook's words now registered in her head. 'Don't let go of the circle.' He wouldn't try to kill us, would he? Lure a couple of 'city-folk' into the forest for and get them to summon a monster from Hell for some kicks? You've got to be pretty insane to be a Traveler... but he didn't seem that bad... do I trust him? She didn't, but it seemed wise in that moment to defer to the only person in the group that had any knowledge of magic. So she dug in and stared down the creature. She hoped she wasn't making a fatal mistake and enabling a madman.
