There was nothing preventing him from reaching his intended destination, nor was there anything pushing him after reaching it. Thus, there is no reason to think that he wouldn't be on stable footing after grabbing the shield. In terms of the brute strength, note that you said Daniel [i]pivoted[/i], not that he pushed Talon in any direction, so Daniel's strength does not come into play. After all, nobody just sits back in a fight and lets their opponent do whatever they want.
