Watch out.[/sub] Let us trace back before everything. Before Athalia Academy. Before he was even a demon; Baalthar. Balthazar von Treissant in life, was a young boy that lived in a rather quiet place long ago. His family, well, they weren't the greatest folk around. His father - Eleger von Treissant, was a well respected figure... In the world of criminality and deprivation. An experienced thief and part of the mafia, he was practically the materialization of fear. His mother, Giulie von Treissant (Giulie Alameda before) was a caring, lovingly woman who took care of the family's money... and organized heists and assaults at other families. Now, being the son of this adorable couple, Balthazar was automatically involved with crime since his early life. With eleven years, Bathazar involved himself in a fight with some snob, fatty of a young child that provoked his due to his... shoes. Naturally, he reacted, but he was confronted not by one, but three children at the same time. They circled around him after school and beat him up quite badly, leaving him with a swollen face and many bruises. The next day, his father forced him to take a brass knuckles and told him that if Balthazar didn't make these imbeciles bleed, he'd be the one bleeding at the end of the day. He also taught a lesson; "If you have to choose between bleeding or making someone bleed, always pick the latter, no matter what circumstance". And so, he did; the boy waited patiently for the class to end and followed one of the boys, placing the brass knuckles on his left hand. The first punch was a such a pleasant surprise, breaking at least two teeth, throwing the boy straight onto the ground. A head-stomp came afterward, just to make sure to show that Balthazar wasn't to be messed with. The two other boys were together and Balthazar had to sprint a little to reach them. When he did, he just approached the duo and threw his hand straight onto the taller guy's chin - if he knew how to punch or had the strength to do so, that could've caused some pretty good damage. Luckily (for the taller boy) it just hurt like hell. The smaller, fatty snob of a rich young boy began yelling and trying to kick Balthazar's slender figure, who just ran backwards before coming back to kick the guy back, they spent a few good seconds throwing messy kicks at one another until Balthazar landed a lucky punch right at the fat kid's nose. Crack; a bloody, broken nose was earned by the uncivilized fatty and Balthazar never felt so damn proud. His father picked him up seconds after - he had been following his son the whole time. When he entered the car, the man patted his head; "Blood for blood, you did a good job there." As time passed, Balthazar became more involved with his father's doing. He started to partake in extort jobs, making a name for himself. Well, the family "von Treissant" already had a name, but Balthazar was becoming a feared figure, himself. With seventeen years old, a full elegant suit and a baseball bat, that boy could cause as much fear as a brute with a handgun. Perhaps even more. The thing is; he practiced with renowned pugilists, was trained since his very early life to know how to throw a punch, how to hurt someone and how to defend himself. He always had a gun and two other guys with him, Frederich and Vladimir, both followers and loyal grunts. He was that kind of young man. Things became increasingly heated when Balthazar involved himself with a sweet girl; Rosette. With a golden, long hair, blue, striking eyes and a dress as beautiful as the clouds sky above, she was simply irresistible. They always went out together and spent countless hours together through the week, until something unfortunate happened; it was discovered that her father was a mobster as well - and even worse, not exactly in friend terms with Balthazar's father. Let's say that the respected Eleger did something not so respectable to Rosette's mother. That'd be the end of the sweet couple, but she insisted in meeting him in secret. Naturally, he agreed. They next encounter marked Balthazar's life forever though; they went to a nearby lake, quite late at the night. They began chatting... And somewhere between that, Rosette pulled a knife and attacked Balthazar, piercing his shoulder because he moved quickly. She clearly aimed for his neck. The boy swiftly grabbed her wrist, trying to get her rid of the knife, but she kept trying to attack - they exchanged little words and every attempt Balthazar made to calm her down and explain that it wasn't his fault, was answered with a futile attempt to attack. In this chaos, the girl made a few cuts at his arm and Balthazar realized something. He was bleeding. "Fuckin' bitch," Was the only thing he said before grabbing her hair and jerking her head backwards - there was no compassion any longer. The girl screamed, but it was muffled as a firm palm grabbed her chin. The next thing; a knife pierced her stomach, and her corpse was thrown at the lake without the least bit of remorse. That was the end of Balthazar, however. The news began spreading quickly, and families heard of such atrocity that the Treissant had done. They tried to hide- a war between families started and there were way too many guns pointed towards the Treissant. They were doomed, all because of a rude mistake. Giulia and Eleger gathered men and weaponry, three cars trying to make it for their escape out of town, but they were stopped. Two trucks blocked the road and when they tried to turn to go the opposite way, at least nine cars blocked the road - twenty men and women moved outside. What a beautiful spray that was and by the end of the day, three drilled corpses were left at the bridge and the Treissant family's disgrace was nothing but a rumor told for the next ten years or so.

"Well, well, well... Seems you finally... recovered." An echoed voice spoke, just as the soul opened it's... eyes. Not exactly. He glanced down and saw nothing but a strange mist floating in oblivion - a pitch black place. Nothing could be felt, nothing could be seem. "You question, do you not? Who are we, who are you? Where are we? Where are you? It's natural." The voice was clearer now, but it still echoed through the whole place with an uncertain tone. "... W-What is this? Am I..." When Balthazar spoke, his voice was terribly strange as well. Not natural, in the slightest. "Dead? Indeed. You are mostly... dead. But, you have another chance... Hahahaha, I saw what you've done. In a few years, you've caused more pain, death and suffering than most who step in here. We... praise... you." That laughter sounded as if at least a hundred beings laughed together. That, with how the 'invisible creature' spoke in plural, made the soul more and more confused. "I... wh-what? Am I in hell?" "Not yet. I will present you there in a few seconds... Bon voyage." Everything became distorted - as if the place was melting entirely, becoming a flush of colors. Screams of pain were heard and became louder until eventually, Balthazar felt his body hitting harshly against the ground. He glanced down - the ground was burning and he could feel his feet touching it - actual feet, even, he didn't felt like a purple smoke floating somewhere. His eyes slowly opened and what he saw made him immediately close his eyes. The scenery was disgusting - everywhere, people being tortured, having their body cut and burned, the ground was a mixture of stone, blood, organs, livers and lava. The creatures, all horrific as if they had body parts awkwardly and randomly implanted on them. "Closing your eyes does not take the pain away - and I can simply cut off your eyelids anyway! HAHAHAHA!" ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... It took many years of torture - pain so unbearable that there wasn't a way to explain, at all, until Balthazar became the host of an experiment. To materialize the shadow of one's heart into a being - indeed, a magical experiment. Provided by a high tier member of hell, Balthazar was thrown and locked onto a table as chants in a demonic language echoed through the dark room. Constantly, runes were burned onto his chest - a black, strange glow coming from them. He eventually lost consciousness. When he woke up, there were four beings staring down at him, all smiling. "What is your name?" One of them asked. "Bal.... th.... Ba-al.... ar...." "Baalthar! Excellent name, a pleasure to meet you." The same being said. Another one, asked; "And what are you?" "... I am...." "A demon. You are a demon - and a being of shadows, hehehehe." It said, 'Baalthar' agreed nearly automatically. And so, his unlife began. His soul, which was to be tortured for the rest of eternity, gained a new opportunity of unlife, where he was promoted to a demon - he learned to control the shadows and was forged into a fine force of hell, all with the purpose of eventually serving the fallen angel himself, Lucifer. Much time passed and many other atrocities were committed by Baalthar, until he eventually was thrown onto his task - a spy of sorts whom was to enter Athalia Academy as an average 'student' in order to steal a particular angel's power. That was his downfall. The plan worked. Baalthar infiltrated the academy and earned the angel's trust and friendship. Eventually, though, he used both to attain what he so desired: To fulfill the task of taking away her powers, as ordered by a superior mentor from Hell. Unfortunately for Baalthar however, the power he had stolen was in fact the angel's grace; and such potent, vivid energy could completely change his behavior; the purity of such power taught him feelings and emotions, and not only that, it hurt him so badly that he couldn't handle it. Due to those many reasons, Baalthar, before departing Athalia, searched the angel and gave her grace back, liberating himself from the unbearable pain of carrying it. Sadly, Lucifer discovered that and after Baalthar returned to hell, he was meet with a pain that was much worse than the one of holding an angel's grace inside of him. After being tortured repeatedly, every single second of the day, Baalthar was reforged into an almighty force of Hell. He became a 'perfect soldier', devoted to serve, cause pain, destruction and chaos. He was so cruel and unstoppable that even some members of hell feared his presence; as small in stature and 'normal' as he was in his appearance, the things he had done, well, they could easily strike fear into the heart of a powerful demon. With a new found power added to his being, the demon completed all sorts of tasks and missions given to him and it was in one of those tasks that he found what would easily change his life forever: The Umbra Regis. Sent to check for rumors of a powerful artifact in a temple in Alaska, Baalthar began investigating the whole place, searching for whatever could be deemed powerful or not. Not being successful, at all, he was becoming bored - enough to already make the preparations to leave and he would, if he wasn't interrupted by an angel that attacked him from nowhere. Luckily, Baalthar wasn't damaged severely, as he disappeared within the temple's shadows after being attacked, reappearing shortly after. "Oh, what a rude introduction. I thought angels were more... educated." The demon teased, raising his hands - the shadows around the temple gathered around him. "And I thought demons were too worried causing us problem to come this far searching for mere rumors," The angel raised his hands, holding a golden chain that wrapped around his right wrist. Naturally, Baalthar knew a fight would erupt now - but luckily, he already had numerous quarrels with angels and knew how to deal with them, at least the lower powered ones. With a single gesture, many shadows erupted from the ground and materialized onto long spears, swiftly throwing them towards the angel. Easily, he deflected all the projectiles with his enchanted chains, leaping high above the ground as he brought them down towards the demon. Similarly, Baalthar clasped his hands together, a sphere of shadows raising around himself, protecting him completely. "Light is the bane of darkness, surrender, vile demon!" The angel shouted as pure light energy formed onto his palm, sending a fast traveling projectile towards Baalthar. It struck the demon straight onto his chest, sending him rolling backwards with a pained grunt. Once he stood up, it was easily noticeable that he was harmed. First, there was a hole on his shirt, and a burn mark on his chest. Blood dripped from the side of his mouth, yet, he smiled maliciously. "Blood for blood." The words echoed as the pitch of his voice lowered. His crystalline blue eyes turning a darker blue; the temple's shadows all began disappearing, as if they were being absorbed by Baalthar. The angel did not stand by and watch, swiftly moving to bring his chains down onto the demon. An unsettling silence followed after. The silence was broken with a faint laughter. Baalthar was walking on the wall far left - the whole temple's walls and ground became a pitch black color. As if it was entirely covered in shadows. The angel glanced towards Baalthar, groaning lowly, but giving the demon no chance as he swiftly took flight towards him, spinning in the air to gather enough momentum to throw his chains towards the demon. The demon merely disappeared, however, instantly reappearing right behind the angel. He gripped his shoulders, with each hand, shadow gathering in that particular area - increasing his grip. Then, he slammed the angel down forcefully, breaking the ground underneath them. Accidentally, Baalthar discovered a hidden floor underneath the temple. It was then when he first saw the Umbra Regis. [sub]This is a very large wip, bear with me. It'll be completed eventually.[/sub]
Personality: Baalthar is a being that seems to feel no emotion towards anything. Void of any emotion leaves little room for a true personality, yet, he manages to often show traits that distinguish himself in a manner or another, such as arrogance; Baalthar frequently thinks of himself superior to others and will always remind both himself and others that he 'bows to no one'. Another noticeable trait, is how utterly vindictive he is; to him, 'blood for blood' are the words that'll always make him seek vengeance towards everything that caused him pain or suffering, physical or not. Lastly, Baalthar has a dark sense of humor and is constantly cynical, especially when in a combat or riskful situation. Besides that, Baalthar is not extremely cruel, as he does not kill without the necessity to do so, he's not insane, as he'll always act with caution and tends to think before his actions and he is not in any manner a danger to anyone that's not either an angel, a demon or seeking the same thing as him: Reign over Hell. To talk more about that, his objective is to take hell's reign from Lucifer himself as he firmly believes that he's the rightful King. That's what has awakened his crave for more and more power, and is what often makes others think that he has no limits imposed by morals - which might be true to certain extent. When it comes to ways of obtaining more power, Baalthar will reach extended lengths.

Umbra Regis
First, the Umbra Regis (Shadow Reign) is a powerful elemental blade wielded by the Shadow King a millennia ago. This sword is extremely powerful and only equal to the Lux Regis in terms of power, standing above all other Regis swords. Because of it's huge power, the blade seems to have it's drawbacks on the wielder: First, the wielder is slowly changed by the blade. It speaks to whoever wields it, and asks to draw blood. It makes the wielder bloodthirsty and violent, "Shadowing the wielder's heart". There is more, too; anyone can wield the Umbra Regis, but the blade will always choose the "Rightful" wielder, and this chosen one has far more power when using the blade. Baalthar is the rightful wielder of the Umbra Regis

Those are the abilities granted to the rightful wielder: Natural Abilities: Immortality: Baalthar does not age, has no need for eat, sleep or water, is not affected by weather conditions and never gets sick. Shadow Ruler: Baalthar is completely immune to all shadow spells or magic. He's also naturally resistant to some of the demonic and void spells. Profane Presence: All angels and light/holy magic users might feel discomfort whenever Baalthar is present. Unholy Vitality: Baalthar has increased stamina, strength and speed. Shadow Flight: When out of combat, Baalthar can become a living shadow and travel at a much faster speed. Perception: Baalthar can naturally perceive things whenever they are within the shadows. This increases his reflexes and agility whenever it's dark or shadowy. Blasphemy: Baalthar is no demon any longer, but a being forged purely by shadows. He has no weakness towards holy spells - they deal normal damage to him. Abilities: Come Forth, Umbra Regis!: Baalthar can summon the Umbra Regis at any time. This means even from someone's hands, or from a few meters away. Naturally, he can also banish it to the shadow realm at will. Tenebrae: Baalthar's method if initiating a fight. With the Umbra Regis, he'll pierce the ground beneath him and mutter a chant in an unspoken language. In a matter of seconds, a large area around himself will become pitch-black; all of his spells have their cost reduced inside of the Tenebrae, and his wound heal at a faster rate (small wounds in mere seconds, deeper and other severe wounds in minutes). This lasts at least ten minutes. Nicto: Baalthar can teleport to any nearby shadow instantly. While Tenebrae is active, he can teleport anywhere within the affected area. Umbra Torquem: Constantly, Baalthar materializes shadows as a dense, nearly unbreakable object that wraps around his wrists. He'll use these as chains to attack and wrap around enemies - both to cause damage and apprehend them, if he needs to. Umbra Capto: Whenever a foe distract themselves, Baalthar can summon their very shadow in the form of a large hand and attempt to grip his foe. If he succeeds, he'll pull them towards himself. Umbra Ictus: Sometimes when striking, Baalthar can cause Umbra Regis to materialize a cutting shadow that follows the blade- extending it's range in order to hit foes that weren't originally in reach. This is not costly, but if overused, will tire him eventually. Terminus: Baalthar's ultimate resort. When losing a fight badly, he'll open a cut in his left palm and likely mutter; "Blood for blood". Then, he'll pierce the Umbra Regis onto his palm and absorb it - completely. Once the sword disappears, Baalthar's eyes turn a pitch black color and Tenebrae actives automatically around an enormous area around him. For at least three minutes, he'll be capable of using all of his abilities - except for Umbra Ictus - without cost, and will gain an increase in power, strength and speed which triples his already unnatural stats. If he survives the end of Terminus, he'll pass out and will need at least a whole day to recover only just 10% of his power, being incapable of fighting during at least a week. [sub]This however can be somewhat negated if someone who's capable of healing Baalthar is present, boosting his recover.[/sub] Weaknesses: The Sun: While the Sun is ironically the source of shadow, Baalthar does not work well with that. The shadow he uses, is the darkness - what opposes light. The sun is basically... light, which often makes it harder to use his spells. Daytime: For the reason above. Power: While seemingly powerful, Baalthar's abilities are based around finesse and speed. He needs to strike without being hit, otherwise he'll fall rapidly. He does not have any form of brute or intense power. Greed: He's always seeking more power and while that seems positive, it can cause his downfall. Lux Regis: The sword that equals Umbra Regis in power.
