[/sub]
On the 26[sup]th[/sup] of July, 1940, a man by the name of Gerald Robotnik was approached by HYDRA and asked to head a project by the name of MOBIUS. What we know of this is much less than we’d like, but we do understand this: MOBIUS was intended to simultaneously create inhuman, controllable soldiers, all while unlocking the key to immortality. It was a very ambitious goal, and one that Robotnik wanted no part of, but the Nazis were nothing if not insistent. All it took was a threat on Robotnik’s two children to persuade him to helm the project. Robotnik was bitter, to say the least. As a scientist, it was his belief that man should not dare to tamper with nature, let alone for the purpose of war. It was this belief that led to him purposely falsifying the results of his experiments, severely angering the higher-ups at HYDRA. However, at the turn of the new year, a seemingly hopeless situation forced motivation upon him: his daughter, Maria, had been diagnosed with Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome, an autoimmune disease that had been, back then, incurable. Gerald hoped that with his research, the so-called “immortality formula” could unlock the key to a cure. During the following months he and a select team of like-minded individuals worked on creating the, quote unquote, “ultimate lifeform”, without success. Based upon the HYDRA research facility entitled “the ARK”, he experimented with a variety of different animal genomes, attempting to create humanoid creatures with the gift of eternal life. Despite his best efforts, nothing seemed to work, and in his desperation, he turned to an age old legend long discarded as myth: the seven artifacts called the Chaos Emeralds. It is believed that they hold immensely powerful abilities and properties, one of them being the ability to gift life. With his daughter’s health only continuing to decline, he initiated a search for the relics. From what we can discern, he discovered their location sometime during the May of 1941. From then onwards, his experiments saw marginal success. Some sources speculate that he achieved this not only with the assistance of the Chaos Emeralds, but with another unknown compound as well. This led to Gerald’s first major breakthrough, through the humanoid hedgehog specimen, codenamed Shadow. It displayed many abilities, each believed to have been endowed by the Chaos Emerald’s energy, including supernatural speed and endurance. Most notable of all, though, was its inability to age; genetically modified to be born in its late teens, Shadow did not develop past its biological age. Gerald had succeeded in finding the key to immortality. But, instead of notifying HYDRA, he decided to keep Shadow a secret, noting the bond it and Maria had quickly developed. He struggled to recreate the results since then. Unsatisfied with how the project was developing, Johann Schmidt, the Red Skull, threatened Gerald with the death of his beloved Maria and son, taking the two into his custody until Gerald produced satisfactory results. Afraid for his children’s lives, Gerald created multiple specimens of differing species, desperate to win Schmidt’s approval. But before anything could be done, tragedy struck the Robotniks. On the 20[sup]th[/sup] of January, 1945, a company led by none other than Steve Rogers attacked the ARK, shutting down Project MOBIUS for good. In panic, Gerald initiated a protocol forced upon him by HYDRA; scattering the Chaos Emeralds and his new specimens around the globe. Gerald and Maria were killed in the battle that ensued, Gerald’s son taken into SHIELD custody and placed under foster care. Shadow managed to escape in the confusion. We have been unable to track it since.

Ivo Robotnik was born to the orphaned son of Gerald, in the city that’s always on the run: Central City. Early on in his life, it became clear that he intended to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. With an abnormally large intellect and an unhealthy obsession with Gerald’s work, Ivo made it his personal mission to recover the Chaos Emeralds, and with them the lost specimens. With copies of Gerald’s files and reports, Ivo was able to not only recreate, but improve upon the device with which his grandfather had detected the emeralds’ energy signals, all while inventing gadgets and machinery way ahead of their time. It’s with this very device that he, at the age of thirty-two, made his first breakthrough in his search, finding two of Gerald’s creations (referring to them as “Mobians”) in the sunny Floridian metropolis of Empire City, a Chaos Emerald in their possession (Note: it seems that each of the specimens emit some level of chaos energy, which only increases when in the proximity of an emerald). The two creatures in question were codenamed Sonic and Tails; a super fast hedgehog and a two-tailed fox. They’d emerged from stasis a few years beforehand, and Robotnik, eager to reclaim what he believed to be his, set his robots upon the two animals. This marked the beginning of an ongoing feud between the hedgehog and the “Eggman”. Armed with Robotnik’s “chaos radar” and knowledge that there are other Mobians out there, the two anthropomorphics embarked on a journey in search of their fellow kin, seeking to reunite with that which they thought to be family.

Note that Tails has intellect well beyond its years, nearly matching that of Robotnik himself. It constructed the biplane referred to as the Tornado, the very aircraft they used when embarking on their year-long journey to search for the rest of the Mobians. From the scarce photographs taken of it, we believe that its power source was the Chaos Emerald in their possession. Their first stop was Metropolis, where they found Amy Rose, Sally Acorn, and Cream (it’s our understanding that Maria Robotnik undertook the naming process), a hedgehog, squirrel and a rabbit. We don’t have much intel on what occurred there, but we do know that Sonic and Tails were able to convince them to make their way to Empire City. They managed to do so with most of the others, as well. Their travels then took them to London, wherein they found three Mobians: a crocodile, a bee and a chameleon; Vector, Charmy and Espio (due to the lack of circumstantial evidence, we can’t confirm that Maria did in fact name the Mobians. What we can do is assume so). It seems that in their years out of stasis, the trio began plans to found a private detective agency. No, that was not a joke. This is SHIELD. We’re incapable of such things. The Chaotix, as they called themselves, ran their agency in the rougher parts of London. When Sonic and Tails arrived, they jumped ship to Empire City. After their little stay in England, the two Mobians discovered the location of Knuckles, a Mobian echidna, courtesy of an abnormally large energy reading. We’ve tracked their coordinates to an island called Tianshi-- Chinese for angel, located in the South China Sea. We’re unsure as to what gave off such powerful readings. Despite our best efforts, Knuckles never lets us get too close. Unknown to Sonic and Tails, Robotnik had tracked them during their journey, and, using his newfound knowledge of the Mobians’ whereabouts, captured them, with the exception of the hedgehog, fox and echidna. Determined to free them, the trio did just that, engaging in a battle against Robotnik over the open sea. In the aftermath, all Mobians, with the exception of Knuckles, made their way to Empire City. Robotnik receded into the shadows, undoubtedly plotting his next move. The following years would see Sonic and Robotnik clashing again and again, the hedgehog always coming out on top. Eventually, Robotnik would begin his attempts at recreating Project MOBIUS. In the year of 2001, following the official resurgence of superheroes, he found his first real success in Scourge: Sonic’s opposite in nearly every way. The two hedgehogs duked it out multiple times that year, their conflict finally coming to a temporary end at the eve of 2002. Following the stalemate, Scourge went rogue, deserting Robotnik and disappearing without a trace. Frustrated, the doctor took it out on Empire City, forcing Sonic from out of the shadows. Following its subsequent victory over Robotnik, it became something of a mascot for the city; when asked why they’re visiting, tourists would often say something along these lines: “To see that fast hedgehog thing.” In the summer of the same year, Robotnik was going through some financial troubles. From what we can discern, he figured that the only solution to his problem was to create yet another Mobian, but this time in the image of a bat, effectively exhausting him of any money he had left. He called this Mobian Rouge, and with it he pulled off one of the most ambitious heists to go down in history, hitting three of Empire City’s most prominent banks one after the other-- with success. Sonic, though able to incapacitate Rouge, could not get to Robotnik, who escaped with over $10,000,000, with which he used to fund Twinkle Park, an incredibly successful theme park which he uses as a front to fund his vendetta against Sonic. Come the year 2005, Sonic and its friends have established a life for themselves in Empire City, all while defending it (and themselves) from Robotnik. We have deployed agent Christopher Thorndyke in an effort to learn more about the Mobians, with the larger goal of collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds. They could prove to be useful assets in the coming months. Things have been going smoothly thus far.

| Attributes |
Speed: Sonic's greatest strength is his supersonic speed, an innate talent that all members of the hedgehog species seem to possess, though Sonic's has consistently proven to be in a class of its own. He has the ability to instantly accelerate to and run at speeds far greater than Mach 1; the blistering speed of about 768 mph (1236 kmh). It's believed that if he pushes himself to the very limit, he could exceed the speed of light. Physical Abilities: Sonic has shown astounding feats of kineticism, precision and has reaction time to match his speed. He possesses incredible acrobatic skills and agility, alongside supernatural reflexes, able to dodge and counter impossibly fast attacks. When launched into the air, he can perform several airborne manoeuvres before landing, including but not limited to his trademark homing attack. Sonic possesses a degree of superhuman strength, though he has been noted to lack overall raw power by comparison. He can push things several times bigger and heavier than himself, run with extra weight without slowing down, and his various spin attacks are strong enough to cut through metal, burrow through gigantic boulders, and damage foes countless times his size. However, it is debatable whether the latter’s power comes from his super speed, his super strength, or a combination of both. He has also demonstrated extreme resilience to damage. Chaos Energy Utilization: Sonic has also demonstrated the ability to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds for his own use. With one, Sonic can perform many amazing feats, including warping time and space, and occasionally gaining a boost in power. It is unknown whether his power increases when in the proximity to all seven emeralds. For as long as I can remember, they held an important significance among other works of fiction. While others looked to fairytales and classic literature for morals and lessons, I looked to superheroes. To me, they were just more relatable. Batman, Spiderman, even Superman and Wonder Woman, felt human. I understood them. But before I even discovered the amazing world of Marvel and DC, there was another hero that held a special place in my heart. A little blue hero, spiky to the touch, probably a little too cocky for his own good. Sonic the Hedgehog. I feel like I understand Sonic. I feel that with that understanding, I can mold him and his world to fit the Maximum Comics universe. I’m inspired by different aspects of different incarnations, the main two being the Adventure game series, and the Archie Comics line. I think that Sonic is one of those characters that isn’t very firmly defined. I mean, yes, the comics provide extensive lore about his world and his past, and the games also have elements that shouldn’t be ignored, but all in all, Sonic’s character provides a lot of freedom for storytelling. I plan to take advantage of that freedom to tell the stories I wish the games and comics would, hopefully providing quality entertainment in the process. Knowing that Gowi is a huge fan of the character, and being one myself, I’m going to do my best not to disappoint. P.S. I think I speak for every mentally stable Sonic fan (not a lot of them) when I say that Chris Thorndyke is a terrible character that should burn in hell forever. Instead of letting him do that, though, I’m gonna make him cool. Yay.
