Of all the topics to start with, he went with... Self-analysis?
And... Of all the things to say... 'hard yet soft'? Was he [i]legitimately[/i] stupid? Or was that just how he was? She'd heard jokes about people like that, but this... It was mind-blowing. Mari knew he was trying to be amicable, but... That was just sad. Really. Nothing else? None of the regular 'what's your hobby?' or 'done anything interesting lately?'; heck, not even the really awkward 'how's the weather today?' was present. That miffed her; as for why, she herself wasn't quite sure.

"I... I'm not even going to dignify that with a response." Mari sighed, sighing and massaging her forehead with her right hand. "'Hard yet soft'? In what world does that convey any sort of meaning? Honestly..."

Maybe being confrontational like this wasn't for the best, but... She felt like it had to be done or she'd be tearing her hair out. They were going to have to live together for a long while, which meant dealing with issues as they came up and not putting them off for a later date.
