This works out perfectly, I have no issues there. I do actually like the fact that he could maintain a piece of his home.

 Just remember to have some weak points. Maybe a certain strength of metal, or possibly magic. Also how the living alone for 1000 years, with everyone who comes into contact trying to kill him. It could make for a learning experience when he has to face what the rest of the world has become, and the people there.
