The children of the current Sultan are also given this title before their name, yet any spouse of the Sultan is not. Sultans and Sultanas come from the bloodline of the previous absolute monarch. The Sultanate of Aeterna does however have government influence from chosen advisors and aristocrats from Aeterna as well as The Aeternian Council. The Aeternian Council is a representative-based group of advisors with one representative from each Aeternian territory. This council is often given less credit than deserved, for they are often the group to create new policies within the Sultanate, and the Sultan chooses whether or not these policies are to be enacted. If a Sultan is to pass, his rule goes to the eldest or most able child, depending on the situation. Aeterna's sources of wealth are rather widespread. Its main industries are fishing and agriculture, mining, and industrial production. Agriculture and Fishing With large seasonal floodplains surrounding Aeterna's large freshwater river that runs throughout their entire territory, agriculture nets the Aeternian people a rather large source of food. The main crops grown around the river are grains and vegetables. Thanks to the yearly inundations from the river, fertile soil is abundant. Cattle, goats, and fowl are kept around as well to diversify the agricultural industry. There is very little game in the sandy deserts of Aeterna, causing hunting to provide little to no industry, but hunting is occasionally played as sport. Mining Aeterna, much unlike other nations, actually has a rather rare amount of Blue Coal in its soil. Instead, their mines have another hot commodity. Within Aeternian grounds lie a rich supply of Natural Gas, which is extracted and synthesized into numerous other precious gasses. They also have a relatively high amount of normal coal within their ground. This allows for much more small scale and personal used of steam power. Production The industry in Aeterna runs rampant with some privately owned and others government sanctioned. Production of airships is the largest industry within Aeterna due to the large supply of Natural Gas that can be synthesized into Hydrogen and Helium, but due to the desert-like landscape, wood and other natural resources used in production are in need of importing. Other military goods have a large industry in Aeterna, causing them to be a large exporter and manufacturer of weaponry, militarized airships, and tanks alike.
Description of Culture:
Aeternian cities are known for being rather lively and bustling with citizens, merchants, and travelers alike. The current Sultana is known for being quite gracious with the liberties of her people, allowing them to be free to do what the wish. Aeterna has a very distinct class system. This causes people with positions close to the Sultan or military workers to live luxurious lives while there is a distinct working class that those that work in factories and mines inhabit. The wages are too greatly different, but the gap is there. Propaganda runs rampant throughout Aeterna causing nationalism to be a strong force within the nation. Many citizens would readily go up and to arms to defend their Sultana.
Description of Military:
Aeterna has an extremely unique military. Currently lead by the brother of the Sultana, the Aeternian military fights in rather large clusters, occupying both air and land. The air is occupied by powerful dirigibles and zeppelins while below them, formations of tanks protect the ground. The infantry have been known to be rather mobile with small gadgets allowing them to traverse quickly throughout the entire Aeternian formation. This causes both land and air vehicles to synergize quite well. Their strategy works just as well if not better with the Aeternian Navy. The people of Aeterna have not been advocates of war, but once they are dragged into a war, the people wish to crush the threat. With Aeterna being slightly behind in terms of technological advancement, their strategy and infantry skills are heavily relied upon in battles.
History:
Aeternians have been known as the natives of Hadricia, but associate, often with the nations of Edoniras. The Sultanate is well known for defending its lands and not giving an inch of land when it comes to colonization. There have been numerous small skirmishes between Aeterna and Edoniras Civilizations that have ended in nothing more than a few square miles of land changing hands. The nation of Aeterna has been around for a very long time, and it is often said that the lands of Aterna date back to the beginning of written history. Aeterna has been a river based nation for ages now. With expansion, they have learned to rely on other means of survival. Aeterna was always considered a walled off and isolated nation, until the discovery of Blue Coal. The current Sultan had realized that, in order to keep up technologically with other nations, they would have to begin trade to net a large amount of goods for protection. Since then, the Sultanate has been an open nation, welcoming outsiders with open arms. The Aeternian military and government spent many days and a large sum of money to push forward and catch up to the nations of Edoniras in terms of technology. The current Sultana is the eldest daughter of the previous, rather triumphant Sultan Daniel Aurelia. Daniel was the Sultan that reopened the isolated nation, allowing trade to flow in and out of Hadricia easily through Aeterna. He changed the lands of Aeterna from a weak land with the power of a colony into a rising power. With new materials flowing in and out of Aeterna, the nation's technology was able to advance, pushing the nation into an early industrial era. Sultan Daniel became bedridden only a small number of years before the present time. With his illness consuming nearly all of his time, he forced himself to pass on the throne. With his numerous suitors, he looked to his three children to choose a new Sultan. It was a tough decision to choose between his eldest daughter Cecily and his son Lucas. In the end Cecily had proven the most responsible and resourceful and to her surprise, she was given Sultanship. The nation was in an uproar for a short time after Daniel had stepped down, as it all happened rather suddenly and secretly until the new Sultana was crowned. It took Cecily near a month to reinvigorate her people and get her nation back to its previous economic standings, but her people now work towards advancing Aeterna and Hadricia as a whole once more.
