Pitching in. There is almost no such thing as "absolute darkness", especially with a light source in viewing distance. The light diffuses enough that dilated pupils have trouble gathering enough to see, but even if the transition from brightly lit to dark took less than a second, it would take a normally functioning eye only a second or two do discern enough detail to locate a moving creature (Especially since the part of our brains that recognize the "movement" part of an object is more Reactive than the parts that recognize "detail" or "form"). Effectively, unless the lights suddenly turn back on again, they won't be fighting blind for very long.
