Also known as "Period break is almost over, get to class now." Everybody still in the hallways of the school started to turn their heels and make for the door of their next class, lest they be counted late late. Students were suddenly in a rush, teachers were getting impatient, and Petyr Jelen was worried sick. He and Nina had almost identical schedules, fittingly enough, save for their 1st period class; where Nina had Home Economics, Petyr had Band. After 1st hour, however, they always met at the same spot to go about the rest of their day. But Nina hadn't shown up. It wasn't unusual for her to be running behind because Home Ec ran long, but to not be there at all was nearly unheard of. As his risk of being late grew, Petyr spun and took off for 2nd Period. As he marched, dozens of scenarios and explanations ran through his head, each one worse than what preceded it. What if something had happened to Nina? Surely she would've tried to reach him on his phone... but what if she couldn't contact him? What if she needed help, and he wasn't able to because he had no idea where she was or what happened to her? The very idea gnawed at his sanity, and the fear was only cemented when he rounded the corner into the classroom and saw what he suspected- an empty chair where Nina should have been sitting if she had skipped their meeting and gone ahead of him. As the bell sounded and the class settled, he pulled out his phone and as subtly as he could and typed out a text message. N- Where are you? Is everything alright? Text me when you get this ~P No sooner did he send it, however, then a response came. Error, Message not sent. Retry? Before he could, however, the teacher had started class and he had to turn his attention toward note taking. Some time into the lesson, however, his phone vibrated softly. He pulled it out slowly and steadily, saw it was from his sister, and opened the message. "P- I am fine. Just not in classes b/c helping Everett out at the lodge. Will explain later. Pls don't be too mad. <3 N." Great. Everett Wilcox was involved in it. Somewhere in the back of his mind, a part of Petyr saw that as worse than her being hurt somehow. It wasn't that Petyr disliked Everett, having no particular reason to. But Everett made little to no attempt to hide his roots from down in the south, and, well... Tennessee and Washington were very different places. Some things that would be fairly acceptable in Nashville or Memphis were a far cry from anything you wanted to be caught doing in Verona. Not to mention Nina's brain practically rewired itself where he was concerned. She hid it from her brother as best she could, but there were some tells that were picked up after 17 years of living together. She fancied him, he knew it, and it was cause enough for him to be tense about it. Still, she wasn't hurt, so that was a good thing. He decided to let the matter stew for the rest of class and took to his notes again. After 2nd period let out, his phone flew into his hand as he punched out a reply. N- Will you be getting back to school before EoD, or should I wait for you at the shop before our shift? ~P Either way, the siblings were in for a talk when they saw each other next...
