I don't think so! This is my poetry class speaking through me but I think the saber is a metaphor for him - it's chaotic, unpredictable. Personally, I thought the style points were amazing as well and his character as a whole was just bloody amazing! He's quite a 3D bad-guy. You can see him hesitating sometimes but then he's just a dickhead other times!
