First off, Cooling down the metal would probably make things worse for him, as it would essentially leave him blind and immobile, since the metal's all over him. Secondly, I figured that his sword could probably survive the molten metal too, as he mentioned that the armor did. Besides, it's his sword. He'd probably be more used to using it.
