Exactly. So there must have been a change in regime, just like how the world must have fixed the environmental issues, food and water by the end of this century.
Either that, or they did nothing of it, and the reason America fell is because they simply were out of resources, civil strife and conflicts within their own borders. Like second American Civil War-levels of conflict.
