I was almost stumped on this one. When I first heard this song, I thought it was simply about telling a person not to give up on life and go for suicide. After several years, I have realized that it is really talking about the life of a veteran after a war who had been suffering PTSD. The 21 guns they are talking about is a typical military salute for dead veterans or soldiers who died in battle. It is basically against War and suicide and pleads for veterans to get help if they are suffering.
