Marcus fired over and over into the wall of Kest with his pistol to deadly effect as it burned a smoldering hole of black and red flesh wherever the beam hit home. He deftly altered the runes on the firing mechanism and switched to a powerful burst shot as he waded into the fight, his first shot tore the upper torso off a Kest warrior and turned the creature to dust at such a close range. The barrel smoked and hissed an angry red as it cooled down from its devastating capabilities. Marcus worked on the front of the lines keeping any one side from being overrun by the filthy creatures and pulling in anyone who got too far away from the main body. He failed to get Bartuc from charging forward and Landeel was beyond Saving as the warriors rushed them back. Finally Val gave the order to drop the foundry and Marcus found himself with a dilemma, as the order would effectively leave the two fighters alone with the king with no way out. Fire protection or not they would be burned alive from the sheer heat radiating off the molten slag. A rookie roared to his gods and prayed for his fallen and ran in, likely the last of a surviving group of reinforcements, and ran forward to follow in his wake. The initiate was clearly skilled, undaunted by the monsters he faced and graceful in his killing strikes despite the clumsiness of his footwork. On time the initiate would be a powerful force to reckon with if he made it alive. Marcus heard the order for the steel to flow and grabbed the man by the collar and pulled with all his might, free hand loosing bolt after bolt of concentrated death into the rushing creatures. In the last few feet it was clear they could not outrun the raining metal and tossed the initiate forward as another member of the group took hold and pulled the man further from the steel. Marcus managed to make it out with just the hem of his robes aflame and praised his lucky stars silently for the favor. But time was wasting and Marcus needed to be swift. Deliberately he snatched the crossbow Kaathe had dropped and yanked a bolt from the nearby corpses. He had one shot and it needed to count! Marcus reached into his coat and pulled out a scroll he had used to transport Glodin and himself here. The sister scroll was still at the forge. Marcus took out a different scroll and slammed it onto a nearby wall. Bartuc and Landeel might have been on his list but they fought for the order with every ounce of strength. Marcus tied the scroll to the shaft and took aim. The battle raged on as the king fought to destroy the invaders. FWOOMP the bolt flew straight and true to slam into the wall. The scroll came undone as it struck the wall and unraveled, sliding down and sticking to the wall as it snagged on a bit of degree. The runes swirled to life on both scrolls as it shimmered into reality. A portal for them to escape.
