The answer was obvious: escape.
Almost coinciding with his thoughts a deafening bang rang throughout his room. Shouts filled the corridor and Daz flew to his feet in surprise. Seconds later he had his ear pressed to his cell wall, trying to hear more. The shouting seemed to be moving away, presumably towards whatever made the bang. Was this it? Was someone going to rescue them now? Just then the power abruptly went out, plunging the room into darkness. All that remained was the red light on his metal cell door, and then that winked out as well. Hesitantly, almost daring not to hope, Daz carefully tugged on the door, but it was for nothing. He cursed in frustration when it refused to open, banging on the door angrily. But then he noticed it… it was quiet. The water had stopped flowing, he couldn't hear it trickling in the walls around him. Maybe… just maybe… He didn't finish the thought, simply closing his eyes and taking a step forward- and with a whoosh he reappeared in the corridor on the other side of his door. “Yes!” he shouted exuberantly, pumping his fist in victory. The white, sterile corridors were empty and dark around him, but the shouts were getting louder now, and coming towards him. Others, he knew instinctively there were like him, were also beginning to creep out of their separate cells and look around. He immediately closed his eyes and focused on his room back in England. Nothing. Which meant either he was still being blocked somehow, or he too far away, maybe even both. He cursed again, “Fucking hell...” Just then another bang echoed down the hallway and the voices began drifting further away again. Daz eyed the dark corridor warily.
