It took Subhas a split second to take advantage of the distraction the brave little kid had offered. Much as he hated to admit it, he had been paralyzed by fear and indecision for a critical second- so much was happening so fast, it was too much. He wasted valuable seconds gawping instead of acting as first Loralei collapsed and the another gang of the creatures came after them. But once Teddy darted off to get their attention, Subhas was galvanized into action. He immediately bent down and scooped up the girl in his arms- he might be getting old, true, but there was still some iron left in those muscles. Besides, she was a skinny little thing. "Hold tight, duuude. We're gonna get you some medicine," he said to Loralei as he began to sprint towards the main building. He prayed Teddy would be able to outrun the creatures on his little legs.
