There was nothing particularly wrong with Stargate Universe as a premise. The idea of an ancient ship lost light years away from Earth with a human crew was actually fairly valid. The reason the series died was because essentially all of the characters were either unlikable, unrelatable or just downright stupid. There was no emotional connection for the audience cause the writers more or less failed to make us like anyone on Destiny enough to give a crap about whether they lived or died. The other Stargate series had a good balance between, action, humor, and a human element. Universe was pretty much all action all the time. Universe is essentially what SG-1 would have become had Michael Shanks not quite and forced the writers to take a hard look at what they were doing to the series.
Thaaaats pretty much what my point was. They went younger and edgier in an attempt to connect with new audiences. Which was exactly what part of the 200th episode made fun of. The basic premise of the show is pretty much the first season of Atlantis. Certainly workable.
