There was something to having four legs that made being a giant dog somewhat more bearable, the amount of speed he could achieve being a large factor. Jacob relished the wind flattening the fur on his face as he ran, momentarily for getting the extent of his irritation for several minutes as he threaded his way through the forest. But The first hint of vampire smell in the air quickly had those feelings returning, his upper lip curling back as the sickly sweet scent made his nose ache. Slowing his progress to a trot as the intensity of the smell signaled his arrival at the border, Jacob's Black brown eyes began flickering around, large head swiveling as he scanned the surrounding forest. No vampires here... He huffed with annoyance, keeping his distance from the border as he turned his steps to follow along the invisible line. Hey Jake, what's going on? A new voice spoke into his mind, Embry's thoughts slightly confused at finding Jacob's trail leading away from where he had been patrolling earlier. So much for having his thoughts to himself... Nothing. Jacob reassured, unable to hold back a small sigh. Just thought I'd check the border on the Cullen side... why?... Embry's barrage of questions died away as soon as he tasted the tenor of Jacob's thoughts, without Jacob having to explain anything. Oh... Still pretty bitter about it, huh? Want me to come run the border with you? A prickle of annoyance sparked his thoughts, but Jacob quickly let it go. Of course he was still bitter. But it wasn't his friend's fault... sure, sure. I'll head up towards the road, you take the path towards the beach. He eventually consented wearily. With a snort, The big russet brown wolf picked up his pace again, not the breakneck gallop he had used to get here, but still a ground eating run that felt good enough. He could feel the excitement coming over from Embry's thoughts and made a concentrated effort to focus more on the positive emotion. It helped, a little. Don't be such a downer! I bet I can make it to the shore before you get to the highway. Embry goaded cheerfully, automatically lengthening his strides. That did it. Jacob couldn't help but release his own wolfish version of a laugh, a coughing bark that escaped him in a huff. In your dreams! You're on! And then he really kicked up the speed, flying like a bullet through the trees, Feeling the exact moment when his friend did the same, speeding away in opposite directions of one another, simply enjoying the freedom for a few more minutes.
