{Brief Background}
Lily was born into a relatively poor family. She lived alone with her mother in a hotel in New York, where her mother worked as a waitress. There, Lily learned to paint, after being taught by one of the other residents of the hotel. She used painting as an escape from the squalor in which she lived, and when she was 14, she was granted admittance to the Academy after winning an art contest. While her rebellious nature often fights for control, Lily tries to keep to the rules, knowing this is her one way to a better life for her and her mother.
