I am thinking that all the students have to go to the theatre. row 1-2: the first years, row 3-4: second years, 4-5: third years, 6-7: the last year and row 8 the teachers. And that Prof. Arthur Thornton holds a welcome talk and the headmaster of magicana explains all the rules of the school and stuff like that ..... 

I think that this gives the RP a real beginning of the story.
