Greyson 'Grey' Onyx
Age: Appears to be in his late twenties. Mageblood type: Ancient Favored Magic Class: Runic Current Skill Level: Sub-Novice, he has access to but one 'Spell' Race: Flesh Golem, Passes as Human. Appearance: Grey is an intimidating mountain of a man that stands tall, nearly six and a half feet in fact. Height alone doesn't make you scary though, just gangly. And Grey? He ain't gangly. He's a physically impressive specimen in most regards, strong and muscly all over. A right proper heroic physique... A shame that he looks somewhat villainous. What with his short dark hair, pale flesh, and missing eye, and all. The fact that his remaining eye is a bright violet doesn't help either. He keeps one eye covered, the flesh immediately surrounding the missing organ horribly scarred, even cutting into his hair some. Without those scars some might say he'd be a rather attractive man; his features are just as strong as the rest of him, without being brutish. But, he doesn't take good care of his appearance thanks to a lack of worry about the subject, so there's generally a layer of stubble over his chin as well. He doesn't shave unless he has to. His armor is simple steel, battered and worn. Despite its lack of adornment, it is very well-constructed armor. Most would think it liable to fall apart at any given moment thanks to the superficial damage he doesn't usually bother to repair. There are some parts of the armor that look like they've been scraped at for long periods of time: These were once Djarken emblems, now filed off. Short Bio: Not much was known about this man, save he seemed extremely durable, able to survive things that would fairly easily kill ordinary men. He hails from a Djarkel village known as Blacklight, which was constructed from the remains of a military base that was partially destroyed by some sort of vortex. Recently, he has been employed as a guardsman at the Twilight College, where he serves with pride. He has had a few bumpy spots in his career (His latest mission, for instance) as well as high points (Exhibiting tremendous bravery in the demon attack), though he suddenly finds himself questioning things... Odd events seem to constantly happen around him, and he accomplishes feats no mortal man can... Just what is he? Nonetheless, he soldiers on despite his depression, always willing to do his job regardless of his personal issues.
Grey is a Golem, probably the most advanced golem to ever exist. He was created by a group of various mages contracted by a Djarken Baroness as a sort of super soldier project. The plan? Vitamancy to create a perfect body, Necromancy to bind a soul to it, and Runecrafting to keep it all bound and running smoothly. The body was built as a small child, for crafting an adult body would take longer than waiting for a young body to grow. However no ordinary soul from the pit would do. They wanted a soldier capable of thoughts and feelings, able to make the quick judgement calls of a Sentient being. So, they needed a fresh soul, one that was not put through the cycle. To that effect, the head Necromancer, one Gaius Onyx, Decided to use his 18 month old son Grey as a sacrifice, for a child's soul was much purer, and therefore would be more... malleable. However, his brother, Malleus, was opposed to the idea on the grounds that sacrificing an infant was morally repugnant. Yet, he went along with it, more out of fear of the Baroness than anything. Anyhow, various runes were utilized in the hopes of capturing the soul before it could be sent through the cycle of rebirth. The body was prepared, and the process was started. What they were unaware of, was that things far beyond their power were watching. Now, it's unknown exactly why, but they had somehow managed to anger some entity or another. Possibly. So a subtle sabotage was in order. It would slightly alter several of the runes to throw the carefully manipulated arcanite into disarray, but would spare whatever they were creating, for reasons unknown. As the process begun, the Necromancers readied to get to work. As it started, the process seemed harder to control than predicted, but only Malleus seemed to care. It soon became apparent to the man that if they continued they'd lose control of the arcanite and a Maelstrom would be created. However, the other mages seemed to be in a trance like state, likely caused by the ritual having already progressed to far. He knew that it was likely everyone would be killed, but he reasoned that as he could not save his nephew or his brother, he could save what they had given their lives to create. Breaking away from his spot, he ran to the creature (as the entity predicted), and dragged it away from the ritual. As Malleus had predicted, a Maelstrom had formed, though with his abandonment of the ritual, it was not near as powerful as it would have been, and though it still completely annihilated the ritual casters, and took most of Malleus' left arm and scarred the creature's face, it left at least half of the fortress intact. He ran to the Apothecarion, and was able to get medical attention for himself and the creatur- no, child. It seemed that only half of the binding ritual was completed; while the child was alive, he was not bound to anyone's will, and was capable of free thought, as he learned when the child awakened in the Infirmary. It had merely asked questions, such as where am I, and so on. It was upon being asked 'who am I?' that Malleus froze. So, he had told the child that he was his nephew, Grey. And the rest they say, is history. Fortunately, the project was kept secret from all but the researchers, and their knowledge died with them. Malleus was also able to convince the Baroness' envoy that arrived shortly after that all the researchers died in the accident, and that 'whatever they were doing' in that 'blasted keep' was lost as well. After a time, the surviving staff and their families constructed a small town out of the ruins of the fortress. It was there that 'Grey' lived for twenty years, in ignorance of his own true nature. However, possibly as a curse of some sort, Malleus was stricken with illness some five years ago, and Grey cared for his beloved uncle for the remaining time he was of this earth. Two years later, he died at the age of 47, of a disease that almost exclusively targeted those much older than he. His last words were as follows. 'Head out into the world, do some good. Your talents are wasted out here, caring for a miserable old man like me.' So, that's what he had done. He decided to become a bodyguard, someone that protects for a living.
And so, Grey came to work for the Twilight College. Things have not necessarily been going well for him, however. While he distinguished himself at the First Invasion for exceptional bravery in facing down a greater demon by himself, he finds himself constantly plagued with doubts. Eerie things seem to be happening to him, and at this point he isn't sure what he even is. His most recent operation had traumatized him, leaving him depressed and blaming himself for perceived failures. On top of all that, he seems to be falling for the woman overseeing his employment, hardly professional. Good Attributes:

Perfect body: Grey is physically perfect, or as near as one can get. Though not superhuman, he is fast, strong, and durable. While he may not be as agile as others, only a fool would think his size made him slow.
Gentle Soul: Grey is a fairly Altruistic fellow, concerned for the well being and protection of others.
Adept Armorer: Grey is a fairly good blacksmith, and is capable of forging a few weapons, but his true skills lie with forging armor.
Bladesman: Grey has mastered Axemanship.
Shield Brother: Grey has also mastered the shield.
Resolute: Grey is extremely brave, but not rash. He will never back down. Exceptions exist...
Indomitable: Though means of harm that would kill normal men will still render him unconscious (Such as puncturing a lung or crushing a heart), Grey has a mild regenerative property that can keep him alive long enough to receive medical attention, and might potentially allow him to survive without it. However, this regenerative effect is too slow to influence combat, save that his blood clots very quickly, ensuring he doesn't bleed out. aside from this, he is simply harder to kill in general, given that he can just shrug off weaker blows. In addition, his pain tolerance is legendary. There are limits however, and he is nowhere near invincible.

Grey's body is filled with various runes, a fair amount of which merely keep his body together, and fix it when it breaks. However, many of them... don't. These runes give Grey the ability to cast certain spells, from a fair variety of schools. They work... somewhat differently from ordinary magic. Some points: No blood: Grey's internal runes do not require blood to cast, meaning that casting them does not physically weaken him, unless he overuses them to great extents. Limited use: This does not mean that Grey can spam spells, for a number of reasons which we will detail. Location: Every Internal Rune has a location, either an arm, a leg, the head, or the torso. Heat: His runes generate heat when they are at work, and if they overheat... bad things can happen. While he could theoretically cast spells until he exploded, there are runes in place on his brain that will prevent him from casting if doing so would cause him harm. However, it won't stop it before it starts to hurt, just when it might kill him... and it is painful. Each location may only take a certain amount of heat before he cannot cast something. So, he could have a flame spell and an ice spell in his left arm, as well as a lightning spell in his right. He gets four casts of each, but he can only cast from his left arm four times: He has more different spells, but they both generate heat in the same area. It takes about an hour to go from maximum heat to 'cool'. Now, most of his runes are 'Dormant', and awakening them is not an easily determined process. He might be in an extremely stressful situation and manage to use one by accident, or he may simply end up using one instead of something else. Either way, just happening upon it isn't enough, he must constantly train with his runes or else he won't be able to easily use them on command. Finally, while these runes give him a wide arsenal of spells to cast, what they lack is flexibility. Let's say he has a rune that lets him toss a fireball. One might think that there's no point bringing a pyromancer along now that they have him. However, he can ONLY make that fireball. He can't change it's size, he can't control it in mid-flight, and he can never get any better with it. A true pyromancer could move the flame, shape the flame, control ambient heat, as well as improve their mastery of simpler spells. Grey can NEVER beat someone at their own blood. Additionally, his runes only come from the following schools: Vitamancy, Pyromancy, Hydromancy/Cryomancy, Electromancy, Aeromancy, Noxomancy, and at least one Arcanomancy effect (Likely something along the lines of short-ranged teleportation or force barriers). At present, he only has one Rune available to him, Might. Might Location: Torso Heat Generation: Low. Allows for around thirty seconds of continuous use. Might is quite possibly the simplest rune he has. It merely increases his strength, temporarily endowing him with superhuman might. The trick to effectively using this rune is to know just when use it. It may not generate much heat, but one should only have it active mid-swing, when it matters. He usually turns it on for just a second, lending extreme force to a blow. While under this effect, Runes under his body glow bright purple, visible beneath his flesh...
Bad Attributes:

Large frame: Grey is a big guy, this means he is a big target, and less agile.
Sucker: Grey is quite Naive and easily deceived. He's far too quick to trust, and that gets him into all kinds of trouble.
Achilles heart: The 'Crystal Heart', a gem-like formation in the center of his body, is his greatest weakness. if it were to be damaged, he would die without immediate attention, as it contains his soul.
Goody two-shoes: Grey's kind heart coupled with his naivete render him prone to making fairly stupid decisions. He will not allow himself to stand by when someone's in need (Or is made to think someone's in need).
...What to do?: Grey occasionally may find himself paralyzed with indecision, unable to choose between difficult choices and doing nothing instead...
Cyclops: Though he seems remarkable able to cope, Grey's depth perception is terrible at a distance. His 'range' of unimpeded vision is about 30 feet.
They won't hurt me, they won't...: While Grey was once terrified of things one might describe as 'abnormal', Grey has mostly gotten over it. However, exceptionally horrifying creatures or phenomena may still get to him.
Monster! You don't belong in this world!: Grey abhors vampires, finding that allowing one to live will only lead to suffering for someone else down the line, as they must devour people to survive. He retains this view, but has softened lately. Now he sees the vampire mostly as a creature to be pitied, the release of death more what needs to be done than anything. He doesn't get aggressive at the mere sight of one, but he has extreme difficulty trusting them: Vampires have caused him great grief in the past.
Complex: Grey's internal organs are arranged differently from a human's, in addition he has a redundant nervous system and his internals are covered in runes. While other runes may work to repair the damaged runes inside him, if enough runes are destroyed his healing is rendered very slow. In addition, he is much harder to heal by outside means, as the complexity of his body renders him very difficult to be healed by Vitamancy (Harmful Vitamancy effects are just as powerful on him). In addition, a Rune Crafter as well as a Vitamancer is required if heavy damage is to be healed manually, rather than just allowing him to recover on his own. It is imperative that if a limb is lost, it is recovered, for it may be impossible for anyone to replicate a new one rather than attach it without the 'blueprints'. And finally, his missing eye may never be healed since, for whatever reason, any replacement created ceases to function after several minutes.
