[@Zanavy] English doesn't really have a 'right way' left any more, but you can appreciate how years of high school teachers aggressively correcting any 'incorrect' spellings can leave a few mental scars :P

The UK still use miles instead of switching to kilometres, though, which I never quite understood. We're two of the three countries in the world who haven't gone metric with distance.
