Verissa could hear him fiddling about with the stove, her entire body clenched in dread at what was to come. She could already feel her sore back muscles in pain from her actions. Each footstep that drew near to her caused her to shudder more and more, and she had to fight the urge to sob when they stopped. Her eyes were scrunched closed, when she felt her chains pulled lightly, and a chinking noise. Then the footsteps walked away. She sighed in relief, and still nearly broke down sobbing. She clutched at her coverings. Remus snuggled closer to her, comforting her, and that is when she lost it. A single pained sob burst forth, muffled into the coverings. She'd never see her parents again, her friends again, her customers, her shop, it was gone. It was all gone, because of this man and his people. As she curled into a ball, the tears were rolling and soaking the cover. She heard him whispering in that alien language, and she let it all out. She didn't care if he could heart her or not. This was her time. This would be the only time she'd let herself cry while living amongst these people. They could take her away from everything, break her down, force her to do things she didn't want to do, but they'd never take her heart, they'd never make her one of them. When the tears finally stopped, the young healer drifted into a deep slumber, her dogs guarding her close all night.
