Polygamy= More formal/marriage which yeah, banned af. Also tends to have religious connotations and be connected to a guy having more than one wife.
Polyamory= Dating multiple people, more modern not connected to religion or formality. Frowned on by non-queer [s]and some cis gay guys[/s] society but the U.S gov definitely cannot ban b/c anyone who ever cheated would be breaking the law.
