She realized that she may have said something dark but unless people understand her situation, they might get mad at Eli for acting so irritating.   It's happened before, she can barely hold a sentence with confidence.

 Elise never hated Eli but didn't like the way she was. She knew that she was just a kind soul that only wanted a few things in her life. To be loved, to be accepted, and to be in a place she thought she belonged in. Sighing, she looked at Livia, for a second looking like the Eli that she had met the first time.
