The 100 ((based off the TV show/books)) 

World war three, or the nuclear war ended society. The earth had to much radiation making it impossible for anyone to live on it. Everyone was put on a ship and sent out to the space, in the ark/arks. 
The ark was originally 12 different stations, till they realised they were better off together. They teamed up together and created one union. 
The ark also has very strict rules.
Breaking any crime, no matter how big or small, is punishable by death (unless you’re under 18, then you’re locked up). And the punishment is not some electric chair or injection: Death is by “floating,” or the act of sending the still alive “criminal” out into space. It’s as violent and brutal as it sounds.
The prisons are just simply white walls. There is a small lamp and a bed.

97 years later the ark is having trouble with the reasorces such as oxygen decided to send 100 delinquents to the ground. As far as they know there is nothing on the ground, and no human civilization. 
This is a lie. 
Grounder- term used to describe a person who was born on Earth rather than in space or Mount Weather. The Grounders alive today are descendants of humans who survived the nuclear apocalypse 97 years ago. Many of the Sky People have negative views toward Grounders, just like a lot of Grounders view of the Sky People. 
Mountain men- 
Mountain Men, or Maunon (Trigedasleng), is a term used by the Sky People and the Grounders to describe a person who comes from Mount Weather. The Mountain Men alive today are descendants of humans who survived the nuclear apocalypse 97 years before the show, by living inside of Mount Weather. They are responsible for creating the savage Reapers as well as the Acid Fog that have both killed many. Because of this the Grounders have a negative view of Mountain Men. As of Fog of War part of the remaining delinquents finds out about this, and they no longer see them as their salvation.
Reapers- Reapers are savage, primal, cannibalistic, and brutal, showing no mercy to their victims. Most Reapers appear disfigured, with horns and bumps across their faces and head. It is possible this is a side effect of the drug, Red, or some sort of body modification they participate in. Once a Grounder has been turned into a Reaper, they are left in the mines to guard Mount Weather. As loyal guard dogs for the Mountain Men, the Reapers protect the mines as well as bring in new Grounders to the Mountain Men. The only food Reapers are given are the bodies of the Grounders that the Mountain Men have harvested of their blood. The Mountain Men use the tone generator to control the Reapers when interacting with the Reapers during harvests. They can only go a few days without red or else they die. 

Animals
A lot of animals have been mutated by radiation.
