You actually chose quite well for the time period as far as the 1878 goes, because other guns are either going to be single action (which is fun to shoot at the range, and less so when there are bullets going both ways) or considerably weaker - such as the Colt 1889, which uses the .38 Long Colt - which the military had to go back to using the older guns because the .38 simply would not stop charging tribesmen (Aleksandra's guns are in fact based on them, but since she's a brilliant metallurgist she sent extra strong materials over with a letter and had hers completely custom smithed).
