Yeah, I really can't defend the prices of miniatures. As much of a fanboy as I am, I play with substitute minis pulled from my D&D pool. Although I would argue that perhaps your concept of prices in childhood was a little fuzzier than it is now. GW have always been stupidly expensive.

There is no way you could make a competitive deck for less than 60 bucks. Especially with new archetypes like the rebuilt Monarchs, Blue-Eyes and Dinomist making their way into the top spots. And the rise of DD decks makes effect damage less and less consistent.
