The main hall of Miserth Keep was a sight to behold. It was the heart of the once formidable Remonnet Empire and it was clear why. The hall was a huge cavernous room with four rows of humongous stone pillars. The floor was a pattern of white and black marble, across which ran a regal red carpet. The carpet ran from the entrance of the hall to the steps of the throne. The throne sat on the far end of the room atop a raised dais climbed up to by two set of wide steps of rough black stone. The throne was made from a special type of wood known as Othalea, carved from an extremely rare tree that only grew in the Elven Imperium. The chair was adorned with red velvet, gold and polished jewels. Personally Duncan thought of it as somewhat ugly, though even he couldn’t deny its grandeur. Around a dozen of the royal guard stood watch over the procession gleaming in their ceremonial armour, alongside several of the iron fist mercenaries. Wooden benches had been set up on the far sides of the hall for the hundreds of Nyhem Nobles who had arrived to watch the processions. Fourteen tables had been set up near the center of the hall, one for each of the high noble families of Formaroth. A banner hung behind each table depicting the crest of whichever house sat in front of it. Duncan sat in the middle of his table. On either side of him sat Alex and Aurelia. Several of the noble houses had already spoken, however none of them had said anything of particular importance yet. Many were just expressing their own opinion on what type of king they wanted and would support. Aureus Wulfrick had just finished speaking and it was now Duncan’s turn to speak on behalf of the De Reimer family. As Duncan rose from his seat the eyes of all the nobles in the hall turned to him. “Greetings to all of you. As you all know I am Duncan De Reimer and I speak on behalf of both House De Reimer and the imperial court”. Duncan began, though the intro was pointless given that everyone already knew who he was. It was simply a formality and all the other houses had started their speeches in a similar way. “I believe that many of you are aware that I do indeed plan to put myself forward as the next successor to the throne” Duncan could here murmuring from a number of different tables after this statement, namely from supporters of house Manshrew but he continued on without interruption “I assure you that I put myself forward not out of greed or lust for power, but because I believe through my knowledge and experience I can do what is best for Formaroth. I was given the title of head advisor by King John Remonnet himself. One of the many responsibilities of the head advisor is to act as ruler in a king or queen’s absence. King John believed that I was best suited to rule the kingdom should he ever be unable to. However now that John is dead there are no longer any Remonnets left to take the throne. By default I am next in line to the throne, it is my right. I know I am not tied to the throne by blood, but I was trusted by John to rule the Kingdom in the absence of a Remonnet, and I have more right to the throne than anyone else in this room”. Before Duncan could continue Daeron Humber violently stood up from his chair. “Do you expect us to trust you snake”? He shouted “You or the rest of your traitor family. You have made it clear just how far you will go for your ambition after you turned on the Remonnets during the civil war”. Duncan turned to face Daeron “We turned on a vicious Tyrant, not the Remonnets” Though Duncan’s remained calm there was a clear firmness in his voice “Also do be careful who you call traitor, as I remember your family turned on the Remonnets and joined house Manshrew without a second thought”. Daeron opened his mouth to protest but a glace from his head advisor Maerya (whom was sitting next to him) soon stopped him; making a scene during the meeting would reflect badly on him. He threw Duncan a rageful look before he sat back down. Once he was seated Duncan continued. “To further my claim; I also believe that I am the most qualified individual to rule Formaroth. I have served on the high council for many years and have ruled in John’s absence numerous times. I have the experience and skills needed to rule as king of Formaroth”. “I agree with Duncan” Said Charles Du Paraquette as he rose from his seat “Already he had proven that he is a competent ruler. In the short time that he has been acting ruler of Formaroth he has increased the well-being of the people of Nyhem and reduced the crowns debt considerably” As Charles sat back down he gave Duncan a small smile; it was clear that he would keep up his end of their bargain. “Thankyou Charles, your support is appreciated” Duncan said “I trust that you will all make your decision on who to support based off logic and reason and not based off petty bias”. With that Duncan had finished his speech. Many of the nobles had started to quietly confer with each other. As he sat back down he learned over to Aurelia. “Well I think that went pretty well, don’t you”? He whispered. Before either of them had time to say more Alex had already stood up and started to introduce the next representative.
