"To traverse beyond the heavens... It's a marvelous endeavor from the perspective of a wide eyed idealist, yet would you know what to do when you got there? How would you adapt to the unprecedented circumstances?" Name: Ryou Ametsuchi Title: Atlas, Hand of the Heavens Gender: Male Age: 18 Height: 1.87m Weight: 75.7kg Appearance: Usual Outfit/What he looks like Chasers Outfit Personality: Arrogant and certainly not charming in the slightest, Atlas is a young adult who tries to keep himself a mystery and a badass, though failing most of the time. Over confident, he isn't afraid to get into get into the midst of a battle if he is certain that it will transpire and may get a little reckless in doing so. Even with his show offy attitude, he does have the skills at time to back up his boisterous boasting and takes pride in it. Atlas isn't adverse to learning, however as sometimes he may just swallow his pride and ask for some advice. Atlas can get a bit... stressed at times during the job. It is usually just verbal lashing at his allies, but he ends up being sullen and apologize after he blows a fuse. Even with such a hotheaded vice, he does his best stay calm under any type of circumstance if this happens. Of course, he may snark a bit or hit on one of the girls which may mildly irritate others, but he won't push it so far as to cause bickering among the team. Atlas and Ryou understands where they have to stop to prevent themselves from overstepping their boundaries. They also display immense respect to the Hunters Association, especially those who trained him up or saved him from merciless oblivion. If diplomacy is to start it off, he will do his best to display what ever little charisma he has... His loyalties do lie with his comrades too as he is adverse to abandoning his companions, and will be unshakable against the odds, despite his growing fears and gnawing doubt over the situation.
"It's been four years since that fateful day... and myriads more to come after this one..." "So much time has passed on by, how I've gone from a fledgling Chaser to one who is a bit more professional... I still have much more knowledge to procure, and so many more decisions to make. I won't be able to assist Haruka in her club endeavors with money... and yet, do I really want to traverse down this path and attend a university while working as a Chaser on the sidelines, or become a full time Chaser?" "I mean, I know I have myriads of opportunities to obtain, yet I feel excitement rather than the droll pace of life when among other Chasers... Do I pick between the thrill of life and its desires, or the more mature, stable passage? Do I give up on one, or is it possible to keep both without stressing out too much?" "Damnit, what do I have to do?!" Ever since the divide, everything has shattered. In long days past, Ryou originally lived a happy healthy life with his family in the U.S., despite the hardships that transpired behind closed doors and closed minds. He performed exceptionally well in school, his parents holding him to higher expectations and hoping that their daughter would do the same. Friendships and rivalries were made, excellency and new knowledge invigorated the young man, and he lived blissfully with naught a blemish to his life... ... sort of. Ryou's parents more or less bickered over some small inconveniences, but that was normal, right? They ended up a bit more troublesome when money became a bit too tight, all while their father was being careless with what they had. Eventually, they lost the home they were living in, and their mother grew tired saying enigmatic things which the child failed to comprehend at the time. The duo got a divorce, shocking both children as she managed to not earn custody over one, but both of her children. Ryou can still clearly remember the distraught on the teary mans face, the one he knew as father. With connections as a business woman, hard work, and long hours, she eventually garnered a new position in her job within her home country. However, it was in an unfamiliar city known as Sonomachi. While it wasn't relatively close to her hometown, she took the job due to the better pay, which meant they could afford a better life at most. Eventually came the day where the departure of Ryou, his sister, and own mother was imminent. They all saw their dad one last time, giving them a heartfelt hug as they embraced the mans warm arms. Their mother gave a cool, nonchalant farewell to the man, but not before he apologized and made his ex-wife a promise. She chuckled before retorting with a genuine smile on her face that gave a ray of light to their fathers face. The time came, and then the trio departed to their mothers home country, leaving behind their father who made an oath. "A promise to make amends, huh? Seeing as you try to visit us as much as possible tells me that you're not only my father, but a man of his word. That's something we should all strive to do..." New life in unfamiliar territory was especially terrifying for the two siblings, especially Ryou who failed to pick up on the Japanese language, unlike his sister who found it to be transparent. The boy managed in school, albeit finding it a bit difficult to learn with the barrier between him and his tongue. It took time to adapt, with it being stunted due to abuse by peers who reveled in teasing him and making brazen attempts to make him appear to be a failure. The latter failed, but the bullying didn't stop. It eventually caused him to form a shell and recede inwards at the start of a mental assault, all while his sister could do nothing but be shocked and gawk in terror, unable to force them away from her brother who inspired her in the earlier years. Six years down the road, on one fateful day, it happened while shopping for food since their mother couldn't exactly do much with her job in place. On the way back to his lodgings, Ryou was made an easy meal for a Youkai who dragged him to the other world when no one was looking. Flailing and failing to dislodge himself, he was certain that his life was about to be taken. As he struggled, he thought back on the past few years living in Japan - would anyone really miss their target for harassment? Even so, he sloughed off those thoughts, as more important matters deviated the lesser inconveniences from his head and kept fighting. Ryou lost the battle, but won the war. Chasers luckily came across the boy on one of their missions and rescued him from the ravenous Youkai before he was slaughtered like mere lamb. Eventually, he came to knew about the two worlds, and plenty of secrets hidden within. There was potential seen within the young boy and he was made a Chaser. While learning the ropes, he was frightened of this new realm and sought to hide himself as a way of segregating his two lives, and keeping his family safe if someone ever got any wise ideas. Taking on the name of Atlas, he began to grow, holding it out on his own with other trainees before being enabled to go on what he considered proper missions as fully fledged, but fresh Chasers. Over the course of four years, there was a shift within him, and ever-growing soul. As he made a few friends, he grew aloof and a bit serious to the coming days, sometimes a bit irritated much to their surprise. Another change was marked as the hermit came out of his shell when he harbored a way to disclose himself for the masquerade of mysteries and enigmas that regular humans would never comprehend. Atlas was alive while Ryou remained dormant... though, even so, he never forgot his place and who he was. The two personalities always would bleed together a bit more after every mission. Ryou and Atlas still have a long ways to go with the other Chasers, more to learn... Ever since the divide, everything has shattered.
Powers: =Gravity= The ability to manipulate space itself to a limited degree garners assets to this young man. While he cannot directly alter how heavy a magical weapon weights, or another persons gravity, he can directly control his own and where he gravitates towards. While it doesn't change his center of gravity, it can provide access to different ways to handle opponents. Standing on the side of the wall while sparring was always an interesting endeavor, or attempting to eat while on top of the ceiling is something interesting. The best part about this is he can change the way an object weighs, but only if he is grabbing onto it. For example, lets say there's a huge battle axe that isn't treasure and heralds some difficulty to swing. When it does, you get all or nothing depending on the agility of an opponent. Give the battle axe to Ryou and he is hacking away like a mad man on crack. Of course, manipulating it to make it lighter isn't all he can do... Word of advice, don't get too close if you're holding something that isn't a weapon of the arcane. His final power allows him to create an area which affects the gravity around his expandable baton. The area can decrease your weight, with the intended effect of making you feel like you're on the moon, or a more devastating effect which pins anyone who enters down, with the exception of Ryou (he can cancel it out, but it does have significant drawbacks). The area covered in height and width equals 20 m, but since the area is spherical, along with the center of gravity being at the baton, the maximum height is 12π m, with the width being 10 m from the center. Weapons: Destinare: While albeit clunky and certainly heavy to use, a steep price of using this treasure is outweighed by the reward. Taking the form of an eku with double ends allows for maximum slicing potential, but can be used for more than rending flesh. The dual ends blades can be temporarily released to make the eku appear like a scythe, all while stabbing and eviscerating for a short amount of time before reverting to its previous state. What it does negates all pain once an equitable amount of adrenaline is obtained. Once the user begins to level out, the full pain returns, but the cuts and bruises are much more regulated and not as severe as they usually would be. In a nutshell, make sure his body produces a great deal of epinephrine's, then use him as a meat shield or punching bag. Also, another note is that this doesn't nullify the wounds he has already received before activating this power. It has taken a while, but currently Ryou can swing it at a fair speed; not to slow to the point where someone can easily evade it, but not as keen as lightning so he can't exactly go all ham with it like other simple, non-magical weapons. Expandable Baton: This is mainly Ryou's backup weapon when it comes to battle; when extended, it is about 65 cm in length. Of course, it does have another use which gives him a vantage point against other people or creatures. When impaled into the ground, he can use it to control the gravity of a certain area (up to twenty meters in length; horizontally and vertically), which means if you step into its vicinity, you could either jump like a man or woman on the moon, or be pinned onto the ground. Of course, if he wants to cancel it out, he needs to physically grab the baton to disable it. Depending on the gravity, he may need to counter the field with his own to counter the forces pulling him down... which will waste his energy in the process. Equipment: Gas Mask: When becoming a chaser, Ryou started off as wanting to find a mask to hide behind to remain unrecognizable out of fear of being identified by any traversing Youkai*** who might target him or his family. He found this Gas Mask when window shopping at the cafe, and found it to be excellent for the impending missions. Over time, his confidence surged, and now keeps wearing it to remain an enigma and a wannabe edge lord. Of course, it still has its use outside of hiding his face - it protects his eyes when assaulted with myriads of magic, sandstorms, or just generally anything that would love to gouge those two orbs out. Durable Hoodie: Due to injuries and suspicion, Ryou began to fortify the hoodie with yen and certain items he bought or "found" while on the job. Over time, it gave him decent protection against certain blows from assailants. However, he still attempts to stay agile, as getting battered still is going to hurt like hell. Dress Shoes: While tacky, Ryou has modified them to be much more comfy and protective, allowing for some relaxation while on missions all while providing little amounts of defense. Other: Versatile at a closer vicinity, but shows weakness when faced against an enemy at range. Why he doesn't grab a gun is because he doesn't want to bother with maintaining one (and with the added reason that he can't hide it well, unlike his baton and eku) and he can't wield a bow because of an embarrassing facet - he has the inability shoot an arrow to save his life unless the target is two feet in front of him. Ryou is basically two sides of the same coin - on the job, he is a somewhat rash, overconfident Chaser who doesn't display fear, while the real him isn't as boisterous... Ryou is much more stoic, reserved and fearful; Ryou bleeds between these two identities most of the time. While his Japanese is getting better, Ryou may slip up at times and say something completely off topic that does not relate to whatever his original message was... and will pretend that he didn't mess up if he is currently as his Atlas persona. Due to the weight of Destinare, Atlas has had to specialize himself and increase his muscle mass to make it easier for him to wield the weapon. While it helps while he is on the job, it also works out when some delinquent decides to try(but fail) and drag Ryou down with him into impending failure. When on missions as a Chaser, Atlas equips contact lens since he can't wear his glasses behind a gas mask. While he does dislike using them, they're better than being nearsighted to say the least, plus it hides his identity better since it makes him look like he has heterochromia. ***This also extends to other Chasers as well; he does his best to avert displaying his true to most of them for the safety and well-being of his family; a healthy dose of paranoia never hurt Ryou/Atlas, no? Only certain people know who Ryou is; otherwise, he is just called Atlas.
