I don't get all this distrust for Ironwood. I get that he's the odd man out of the Ozluminati, that his methods aren't particularly wise or effective, but so many people seem to think he's this underhanded schemer trying to usurp the secret group. I think it's the opposite: Ozpin and the crew are the sneaky schemers, and Ironwood is the guy who tries to get everything done through brute force. We all knew his robotic army was going to fail because we knew before anybody else that Cinder had a backdoor. As far as he knew, it probably couldn't be done. Ironwood didn't want to be made head of security for the festival, he was put into that position after RWBY set off the White Fang's plans early. Which, as we all know, was a failing on Ozpin's part. He sent team RWBY there, knowingly "bending" the rules because they were up to something. Sure, he's not wrong that they would have found a way out there on their own, but part of being a leader is taking the blame for when your plans go screwy, just like Ironwood's going to be taking a huge hit once people realize that his glorious robot army turned on the people, regardless of whether he was behind it.

I don't know why you think I distrust Ironwood. I loved the hell out of him ever since he complimented Ruby for her quick thinking and go-getter attitude at the Beacon dance, and it hasn't really waned since. But given that we can assume he's been walking around like Deathlok for a while now (given that Glynda, at least, is familiar with his prosthetics) I don't see why Penny would need to be brought up in order to keep him alive. Or why she'd need an Aura. From what we know about her, and what she says - hell, she tells Ruby flat out that her job is to save the world - I think that Maidenhood fits Penny's destiny more than a testbed for future life saving tech. If what they were keeping Amber is any indication, they had enough of that already. It's just about someone having a different perspective on the problem and a potential solution. We already got hints of this with Glynda's reaction to Aura transfer technology, and I don't think anyone from Vale would have devised a solution like Penny, either. It's different paradigm, not distrust. At least in my book. Also, Ironwood is the Tin Man. His right half may be metal, but he still has a human heart.
