From his mother and father, he got a skateboard, even though he really disliked it. How were they supposed to nkow though? It's not like he ever really talked to them. Kilik didn't have a very good relationship with his family. His grandparents got him some money, just $100, not much. Then there was Uncle Ken. Ken was... peculiar, to say the least. He wasn't around much. He would be off doing things all the time without letting anybody know and he'll come back beat up and make up some crazy story. Uncle Ken gave Kilik a box of his old books and told him to start reading. They were important somehow, but his mom didn't want them to have them for some reason. They were just old books and some weird drawings, what was wrong with it. Fast forward 2 years, Kilik is 18. He has learned about his past and searched for 2 years for his beast. The one he felt was... right. Many hours spent looking. Then, on a normal day, while reading through one of his favorite books, he found a page he didn't notice before. A picture... it looked like him when he was younger, a small boy with red eyes. He rubbed his fingers on it, and the picture faded away slowly. Puzzled, he closed the book and pondered for a bit and then looked back. The page that the boy was on was now gone completely! At that moment, Kilik heard a noise behind him. He flipped around and saw the boy here. He smiled and reached for the boy. Suddenly, it transformed into him and grinned. Something just felt... right, like they fit together. A small town with not much going on, it was one of those "out-of-the-way" towns that you drive through on your way to your cousins or your grandma's. This town that Vic lived in, grew up in and went to school in, it had sort of a quaint feel. Victor was born in the general hospital to a May and Russel Taylor in the dead of winter on a particularly snowy day. Vic's mother was a very enthusiastic Teller who was usually open about her endeavors, throughout Vic's upbringing his mother often spoke of her trials as a teller and spoke of how, "It's gunna be the new hip thing, you just watch!". Of course, Vic's interest in the art of the beasts piqued at a young age. Vic's father was indifferent to his mothers talents as a Teller, but because she was his wife he went along with it. Vic spent his few years of High school almost completely in the library, researching the Tellers and Tamers. He'd made it is goal to become one of the greatest Tamers to live, through conviction and training. Although this meant years of training and practice, Vic was willing to dediicate his life to a beast and to being a Tamer. It wasn't until shortly before Maria's 18th birthday that she found out that she came from a long line of tamers. It happened when her family went out into the countryside to go see her grandfather, who was close to the end of his life. She had never met the man before, as he had disapproved of his only childs's wife, her not coming prestigious line like theirs, and her father in turn left and hadn't came back. Maria's family wasn't the only ones there that day either. Other more distance family members had come and Maria heard talk of an inheritance and that the one who inherited Garren would get all of it. She had little time to think of any of that before she and her parents were lead upstairs to where her grandfather was. Her father went in first, and a short amount of time, he came out with a sad look, before telling Maria that her grandfather wanted to talk to her alone. Maria walked into the room to see her grandfather lying in his bed, weak and pale. But he still managed to bid her over with a strong voice. As soon as Maria was by his side, he began to tell her briefly of the Beasts and the Tamers, and how he was one and that she was to be the next to inherit his beast as well. Then he offered her a book. It was old, the pages yellowed and the cover had seen both wear and care. Her grandfather asked her to read from it, and not wanting to upset a dying man, Maria obliged. She opened to the first page and started to read. The passages described a dog unlike any other. It's body made of smoke and shadow, with fangs of glistening white and eyes that glowed and eerie red. As Maria read, she noticed something out of the corner of her eyes that made her quickly look up. The dog she had just described was sitting there, less than a foot away from her! And yet she wasn't afraid. "Don't worry," Maria's grandfather said to her, "He will look after you so long as you look after him." and with that, Maria was a tamer.
