Maria's beast is a grim right? Well grim's are known to only show when a disaster is around the corner. Maybe she can tell if something bad is to befall someone? 
But than there is the Japanese version of the grim. A water spirit that would entice and draw people to it even though its a hideous creature. Maybe she could distort what someone sees and make her appear as a ally instead of a foe to those that would wish her harm.
