As far as I can tell, we aren't going to be able to easily pursue first contact with each other. We [i]can[/i] metagame slightly as we're being informed of the coordinates we're each exploring (see how the Preservers explored J2), but we do have to explore the territory between different races first.

It's very possible, for instance, that the Orx and your species will be placed on opposite sides of the map. It's also possible they'll be right beside each other. Where [@Theodorable] places folks is incredibly important.

Personally, I'd love to remove the metagaming effect entirely by replacing the coordinates with something else temporarily. J2 could be called "Unnamed" until I give it a designation from my species, maybe temporarily referred to as "1 South of Orox System" or something. I wouldn't mind seeing coordinates once the map goes up, though.
