I personally like that aspect really though it would still likely give them a serious case of diarrhea because their bodies are trying to get rid of the excess, useless stuff that they can't digest or use. Which is a biological function. Nice article there though scrolling through the posts, I noted the mention of Garrison not needing a special wine in ME2?!? 0_o I don't recall that but likely don't remember as it's been a while since I played the game.
It could easily be a toss-up between the writers not knowing how amino-acids exactly work, or they did know and just decided to change the rules for ME to make things more interesting. Yeah, in ME2 the end of his romance arc has him buying Shep a cheap bottle of wine as part of his awkward attempt at seducing her. "The best I could get on a vigilante's salary". He apparently only got one bottle, so if the whole amino-acid thing is correct one of them wasn't going to be drinking that night. It gets a nice call-back in ME3 when he does it again, but this time he can afford the good stuff.
