So basically you're looking for stuff that's not too mainstream or just Shonen in general. There's quite alot of suggestions to your picking then. As for fanbases, there's not much you can do about that. One can argue the entire anime fanbase is annoying. 

Anyway for choices, I suppose the best way is to just cycle through my sig and see what catches your eye.
